New Fountain Pen Arrivals

So I just received a new Fountain Pen Shipment.

Just inked up and loving the new choices.

I wanted to own a demonstrator and for it to be my everyday carry pen when Im on the road and for it to be a reasonable price so I can leave my MB starwalker Midnight Metal in the office.

Given the everyday carry and filling in forms I went for Finer nibs than what I am use to and am getting use to them and time will tell how they go.

The purchases

Pilot Custom 74 Clear Demonstrator with a F nib

Sailor Professional Slim Gear with an EF nib.

I also managed to pick up around 5 ink bottles of Pilot Iroshizuki ink.

Initial Impressions -

The pilot is quite large, perhaps to much for an Every Day pen for me. Whilst the Sailor given its the Small and Slim version seems perfect only if you post it. The pilot feels better unposted.

The extra fine nib is perhaps too fine for me. Given Japanese pens are on the fine side it was to be expected. The Sailor is a little scratchy however given its an EF that is to be expected. The Pilot has some flex and offers some good line variation which the sailor doesnt. One could argue you should just get a ball point pen.

Overall I think they are a great addition and should receive plenty of use for varying reason.

Always carry the Sailor
Pilot to be taken to meetings and for a little more extended writing.

Sorry needed to get off to work and did the topic before I could get home.

I must admit the EF nib is very fine and writes like a 0.5mm mechanical pencil. The F nib on the pilot I wish it was a little wider as that good balance. Are they as smooth as the MB F nib I own. No. However we are talking Western fine v Japanese Fine.

Overall I find myself more in love with the Sailor. I think the Sailor may be the next purchase in a black and platinum M nib.

Pics as promised

Shaun, very nice pens and enjoy writing with them. I too prefer the smaller Nibs with Extra-fine being usually the smallest you can find when it comes to European or American Manufacturers(and they are very hard to find and usually have to be ordered) without going to Vintage Fountain pens. With the Japanese manufacturer's you can buy Fountain pens with Nibs which are smaller. Also understand, when comparing them to European or American made Fountain pens Nibs they usually will be one size smaller. So a Japanese Nib which is Fine will compare to European/American Nibs which are Extra-fine!!!

FYI, there are two sizes of Nibs smaller than Extra-fine and they are Accountant(next size down)and Needle(which is the smallest Nib).....

Take care.....Leo

Thanks Leo.

I never knew of the accountant and needle size. The extra fine whilst not really feeling like a fountain pen is still enjoyable. I'm thinking I'm in need of a Japanese medium as the fine of my MB is more like a medium.

The green ink isn't as nice as I thought however the brown is very nice. Can't wait to try the rest in due course.

Should never buy 5 new inks at the se time

Nice stuff. I hope you didn't buy it here in Aus... For me it's either ebay or the etailers in Japan directly. Pilot's usually have perpetual 25-30% off at those etailers.

You would be right that australia is a appalling for competitiveness.

Each ink bottle in australia was $50 where as mine were $16. Great guy direct in japan that I met when I was last over there.

Hi, actually I need to apologize to you for being a little irritated as I know and understand your excitement in having a very nice pen to write with and now it's acting a bit funny!!!

I apologize to you for my attitude and statement and should of been nicer when pointing this out to you. There are some very fine Gentlemen who work exclusively on Nibs from all manufacturers and I'm sure they can fix your Nib if you do not mind parting with it for a few weeks!!!

Take care.....Leo

You of course are welcome and I'm just glad you had your FP looked at and it is now writing correctly. There is nothing finer than having a Fountain pen that works flawlessly.....as once you do experience the use of FP Nibs you will never go back to using a ballpoint pen. Goodbye to "Bic's"!!!!!
