Aquanaut strap / sale problem ....
So firstly, to make it clear, I am not looking to currently sell my 5167A right now. But it is true I may well want to do so at some point, only to trade up to a 5168G or perhaps a 5164R or 5968A. I certainly would not ever want to be Aquanaut-less (god forbid).
Now, here is the issue: in a debate last night with a friend (who is admittedly anti-Patek and only wears Breitling) he suggested that my 5167A will face problems on sale because I had the rubber strap cut to size. I have a fairly small wrist I would say, and therefore the strap is not going to be big enough for, say, 65% or so of buyers. He suggested that all of the Aquanauts one sees for sale in the secondary market are unworn, never cut to size, stickered etc. I have to confess I had never considered the point: but presumably the reality is that if someone wants to buy an used Aquanaut enough, they will just have to order a new strap? Or if I am trading it in for a more expensive watch, the dealer will 'deal' with it? Or is he right, and that it will, if not hamper a sale, hit the price notably? Apologies if this seems a really dumb issue/question to raise.... Thoughts...

whats a new strap cost $250 or something? no one will care
condition of the watch will effect the price.

Thanks guys - well that is fine then!
For some reason, I thought I had read elsewhere on this site that the cost was more like £2,500 and that was even if an AD would be prepared to order a strap. (I wonder if what I read is that the cost of the deployant clasp and strap is more in that order - obviously not just the rubber strap itself). I shall put Mr Brietling/know-it-all back in his box!

I don't think it is the cost that will effect you.
From what I was told, they are very hard to source. Or at least that it will take some time. If this is in your future, might be a good idea to start the process now and keep it in a safe place for the potential sale in the future.

ADs take forever for accessories. Its the only items i dont use mine for. 6 weeks for a 1.5 link or a strap... the salon 2 blocks away has them in stock all the time.
I ordered my wife a JLC strap once and it took pretty much the whole six weeks.

Interesting, last time I placed an order for a strap at my AD it took exactly 3 days until I had it.
I guess it depends whether the local distributor has the item in stock or not. |

My local dealer has a drawer full of rubber straps. Might make the watch sell more easily if you included one.

from an AD, its usually an upcharge but it shouldn't be less than 200 for sure.

yeah, that kind of stuff its usually more since they order it in. My AD is like 15%ish higher for JLC straps for sure as JLC sells them online, AP is higher too.

My AD has a drawer full of rubber/leather straps available as they usually throw in a few with a purchase.

No - the strap won’t inhibit the sale price - the condition will - as previously mentioned.
My AD has always given me an extra strap - for any references I’ve purchased on either rubber or leather - obviously not for sale purposes — just for when they wear down. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Wempe was £470 for the AP GP strap, while APSC was £300. They love to charge on the extras, the strap change was also £50 if bought elsewhere.

Also have small wrist and had no prob getting rid of the 5167a. As for the scratches on your bezel because am sure you wear it often.... that's another story. Selling direct to new buyer will be problemmatic because (generally) Patek guys want what they deem is perfection with box, original papers, etc. The watch scratches can be polished out by any good service center of course.

If selling an aqua preowned it behooves the seller to include an uncut unused strap with purchase. Buyers value convenience and will pay for it.

I just sold my 5164 last week, with a cut strap. It was not a big deal and obviously not a deal breaker.
