Which Rolex was Greg buying in HBO’s Succession tonight?

Season 3 episode 3. Cousin Greg was buying a watch for 40k…looked like a normal black sub…but not sure bc the gray prices were 40k. This show usually has a super high attention to detail…surely they would know 40k would be too much for a steel sub (?)

Looked like a GMT. White gold would be my guess if it was 40.

The bracelet didn't look white gold to me and I couldn't discern a blue bezel, but I think it was a white gold sub. Could definitely have been a WG GMT. Props guy on the show also may be lazy

So the best shot I got of the watch was in the limo when he held it up but you can only see the back. The profile definitely looked Submariner, the caseback looked to protrude a bit much to be a GMT.

Ken also said that he would get Greg a "hookup", so by that I figured he was doing Greg a favor by giving him a chance to buy the watch around MSRP.

So my best guess is 126619LB.

Of course, it would also be keeping with the show, its characters, and how they treat Greg, for the "hookup" to be a grey market SS Submariner with a massive fool's markup.

So I watched the watch scenes again right now. The bezel definitely looks like a Submariner, as does the rear profile. Doesn't look big enough to be an SD nor did I see a helium escape on the side.

In the limo it looks like the watch has PCLs, but at the party it doesn't look like PCLs. And I'm fairly sure the bezel is black as is the dial.

Oh, and it definitely had a cyclops, that was unmistakeable.

So now I'm going with Sub Date and they are putting one over on Greg and/or the audience with the "price" of 40k.

Haven't watched the episode yet but as a fan of the show, I can definitely suggest that they are completely pulling a fast one on Greg and taking advantage of his naivete with regards to these "fancy" things. They didn't accept him from the beginning when he literally showed up on their doorstep and by making those copies of the docs he was supposed to shred, that shows that he is not as completely clueless as he appears to be, but he's dangerous because he thinks he should do something but doesn't know why he should do it. He's a loose cannon. My guess (again not having seen the episode yet) would be they are totally taking advantage of him because he doesn't know any better.

Audience members who know prices will then get a laugh and will be part of the "inside joke" in the show! Writers do that stuff in movies and shows with other things, so this would be a perfect inside joke for the audience to participate in and it just shows again how clueless Greg really is. Greg thinks $40K is a great hookup for a watch that the family and the audience all know is worth a fraction of that. They give us a taste of Greg's duplicitous side, with the doc copies and getting legal help from his grandfather, but then they do this and have the family rip him off to show that he's a complete fish out of water in this area and they think it's a funny joke to do this to him. Money means nothing to the kids.

at the beginning it looks like kendall is wearing a nautilus at the lunch table (5980?) but it looks too bulky so probably fake. all these shows have bad props

The actual model did not matter. They were just making fun of people who think watches make them a baller, and the douchey briefcase/backpack watch dealers that are now prevalent in our social media culture. Funny scenes.

A TPG cameo would have been epic

Also spotted Tom wearing a Cartier Santos…looked like the two tone version.

Great scene with Greg rolling and shaking his wrists to get the movement going.

Hey maybe the Rolex shortage is due to watches being allocated out for props?

Looks most like a TT 5980, but it does look more fake than real. I'm only on ep 1 so I'll take a closer look when I get to it.

With rare exception, the supposed high-end watches on TV/movies are replicas. It's not worth the expense/risk/insurance to have a valuable watch on set when 99% of viewers will not know or even think of the watch.

The exception is usually when the actor chooses to and is allowed to wear his or her own personal watch for filming.
