Icon17 Submariner on nato strap!

I bought a MOD "real bond" nato strap, and I really like how it looks and feels on the Submariner. What I spesifically like about the MOD straps is that they feel a lot like a cloth type fabric, and are a lot less shiny and plasticy compared to many other nato straps I've come across. The thread in the weave is extremely fine which results in a very soft and comfortable wearing strap, but the flip side of that is that they do fray quite a bit around the drilled adjustment holes. Still, I have some that have been worn several years and they still hold together nicely.

Anyway, there are few watches I can think of that fit a nato strap better than the classic Submariner!

Great look. What tool are you using to make the switch from bracelet?

Personally I prefer the pre-114060 case shape on a Nato, because the "form flows better" than the thick lugs on the 114060.

Nice images, though.

I use two Bergeon springbar removal tools at the same time. The machining tolerances around the endlinks are so fine that there is no wiggle room to work with by just releasing one end of the springbar at a time - they both need to be pushed in and the bracelet pullet away at the same time. It helps tremendously if you have something or someone that hold the case in place for you, and of course some scotch tape on the lugs to reduce the risk of scratching.

I see what you mean and I somewhat agree that the slimmer lugs of the previous generation subs are a bit more fitting for a nato strap (or any strap that makes the lugs stand out alone for that matter). But still, looking at it again on wrist as I type this, I really feel it works with the maxi-case as well. The more solid look of the maxi-case sort of fits very well with the whole rugged and casual aesthetic of a nato in my opinion.

I just purchased a couple NATO straps. I guess I should purchase the Bergeon tool. Is there a specific one that fits the Datejust, SD and GMT?

I'm a big fan of the 14060 or 114060 on NATO. Agree with some other posters about it enhancing the rugged look. Also agree about the older lugs flowing better but if/when I buy a no date sub I will more likely go 114060.

For now, this is my contribution to the photos...
