Just Picked up my FOIS from the NYC Boutique
Hello all!
Apparently they had one left and I jumped on it. Numbered 15,7XX That tells me that there were around 16,000 made. Thoughts? Also what are you projections on the future value of such piece? |

Congrats. Great Speedy...IMO it would be perfect if offered on a bracelet. Not sure about future value...Omega makes so many Speedys in general. Just wear in good health and enjoy

Your best bet for a bracelet is a flat link from forstner or uncle seiko. The look great on that. Future value, don’t see them shooting up - too many for that but given the comparative lack of straight lugged speedies out there it should hold ok.

You can fit the 40mm Speedy Racing bracelet or rubber strap on it as well as the 39.5mm Planet Ocean gatorskin strap if you want OEM parts. If not then the Uncle Seiko or Forestner bracelets work really well.

Many months have passed and I still have not pulled it of the omega store red bag! I wonder what the sentimental value of it will be if I resist the urge and keep it in the bag for 10 years....

You worked hard to buy it, you should enjoy the fruits of your labor and wear it!

Great watch. Straight lugs and diameter size make it a cost effective alternative to the new SS cal 321

Absolutely none. Sentimental value comes from wearing a watch every day and having experiences together.

Shame that someone bought it to keep it in a bag for the next ten years but it’s your watch so do as you please I guess. Not wearing it will not do much for the value but instead will just cost you many memories and lots of enjoyment. Not to be mean but you bought a speedy- not a platinum Daytona. Wear it in good health and enjoy the watch.

OP enters the Metaverse and plugs into TRF 3.0 He revisits this thread and is pleasantly surprised... his watch is now worth $50,000!!!!! Unfortunately the inflationary pressures from 2022 never really slowed down and OP has more or less gained a profit of about $10.... but you know, TOTALLY WORTH IT! |

Congratulations! That's a favorite of mine. I was in an Omega boutique a few years ago and saw the salesman show one to a young couple, who nodded politely as he talked it up, then handed it back and left.
At first, I thought it was simply a Speedmaster Professional on an old school looking brown leather strap. The salesman then set me straight. I have my father's Moonwatch, from the early 1970s, and while it's a sentimental favorite, it is a bit big on me. Wearable, but just on the large size, for my tastes. However, I was struck by the proportions on the First Omega in Space...simply perfect for me. When the salesman explained it wasn't a smaller dial, but the absence of the crown guards, I was blown away. It's proof that how a watch appears, size wise, isn't simply a matter of diameter measurements. Anyway, I bought it and it became a particular favorite. One thing I like about it is that if I haven't been wearing it for awhile, and suddenly decide to out it on, I wind it up, set the time and strap it on. No date to adjust. I am not as fussy about getting the time set just so, because the second hand keeps moving while you're settling the time anyway. By contrast, i have an old Omega Speedmaster Day, Date, Month watch...very difficult to wind manually, and if it's stopped, you've got to set the day of the week, the month, the date of the month, etc. Until I bought a winder for it, it tended to go unworn because it was a hassle to set up, if fully stopped. Anyway, that FOIS is a keeper...glad you landed one before they go the way of moon landings... |
