Incoming Grail Chronomat

So, I'm a big Breitling fan and wore a Blackbird for many years. I also had a Chronomat AB011012 but never loved the aesthetic (personal taste) but always felt it was an awesome Machine and the pinnacle of what a watch can be. My wife wears a late 90's Chronomat white dial to this day.

Anyway, i was in the mood to acquire another Chronomat B01 but couldn't really find the right combo of elements. I liked the upgraded clasp on the transitional models of 2018 but want my WINGS logo, not the B. I also never loved the galactic bezel on my previous one and prefer the more utilitarian Airborne bezel, but don't love the rubber inserts there (again close but no cigar). I also wish the indices on my old one had more lume. I thought the Airborne was pretty close to perfect, i like the dial style but I dont love cream lume and, again, don't love the rubber in the bezel hash-marks.

I felt like Breitling made all the parts that I would want in a Chronomat, but just never put them together in one watch (again, my taste). Then I saw a picture online that looked perfect! I couldn't believe it - where have you been? Well, turns out, Japan.

Anyway, a few translated chats and a couple of import duties later and voila'....here she is (if you're a Chronomat enthusiast, look closely and you'll see the light! All the elements on my wish list are there). It's the Chronomat JSP (Japan Special) and it was never released in the US.

Thanks Sir. I was elated to be able to find her new from a Japanese AD via Belgium (long story).

Why they didnt release this in the US is beyond me. It would've been a killer seller I think.

Rather ridiculous that Japan gets some of the cool limited pieces. I saw another piece that I thought was awesome but was a Japan only release.

Omega has done this with some Speedy LEs as well.

Congrats! This is a great watch, such a nice contrast between the dial and subdials. Enjoy in good health!

Thank you gents. Having the Chronomat back on my wrist is an interesting experience. I feel this is such a robust watch that it make others seem...boring? less capable? idk

I work at a desk, but still....this is a watch!

That’s a stunner. How was the import process if you don’t mind me ask. I’ve always wanted to get a watch from Japan(given all the models they get but we don’t in North America) but always hesitate because of the hoops I would need to jump through to get it to Canada

Hey - It wasn't too tough. It went via DHL Express from the sender. Took two days to arrive at the Cincinnati DHL HUB. It sat for a day and then I received an email from DHL asking for "Watch Worksheet", which DHL provided in the email, and which I then sent to the seller to complete (its a simple one page word doc). Once I emailed the completed worksheet back to DHL, an hour later the watch started moving again (via tracking) and then that night I got a second email from DHL asking for duties/taxes. I paid that night via the link in the email from DHL and it was at my door step the next day.
