It is not that bad if we are all doomed, but this virus gets to choose which of our loved ones will go. I can't volunteer for this.

So far on Maui, pretty much no change but seeing less people now and business are starting to panic. This was 6:45 AM.

At this moment the President of the United States is announcing during his news conference a program to stop spread in 15 days, including recommendations of gatherings of no more than 10 people, and that travel be curtailed.

Yeah but you have to remember people late 60s and up often don’t care if they live forever like younger people do. AND they’ve seen it all before and just tune it out. YOU want them to live forever but they often aren’t that enthused.

“I ain’t changing my life for.....”

Good luck with them, though.

Okay I have a question guys. I have some N95 masks in storage that I bought years ago. I know they've said repeatedly they don't recommend wearing them. However if I'm got them, and I absolutely need to leave my home (I don't plan to otherwise), is there really a reason NOT to wear one at this point? I understand they're not fail proof, but wouldn't it be a prudent measure?

Got that right.

We’ve got a few more days here. Be interesting to see how Hawai’i responds to restaurant/bar closings since it’s pretty much a tourist driven economy and you can’t close those places because tourists are dependent on them for food.

Less and less people were arriving I imagine, so “social distancing” may happen naturally in all tourist areas.

It’s debatable whether it helps, but it surely won’t hurt.

What I’ve read is that YOU will get the virus from contact from hand to mouth from touching infected places. So if you wore a mask but didn’t wash you’re hands when you got home, then it’s pointless.

I’m guessing the mask MAY be a safeguard but they say infected people wearing them is more important.

Perhaps in crowds it could make a difference.

This is what I read:

A document has just been released and being reported on Sky News that a good case estimate of the deaths from the virus in the UK is 250,000.

I'm in shock.

It’s going to be a long year if that’s the case. I pray it’s not.

I think the two and three week timelines on new restrictions are just to give us time to process this pandemic before we are told the truth that our lives will be severely disrupted for six to twelve months.

If this keeps up our society as we knew it is now changed for a good 10-20 years because of a flu.

We are really doomed.

Might be a bit high, but it depends on a lot of factors. The most important of which is whether or not the healthcare system gets overrun. How well a country’s healthcare system operates during crisis will be the difference between a 4% and a 0.5% death rate. Based on the UK’s population and an infection rate of 30%, 250,000 deaths would represent 1.25% of those infected. If the UK does better, that number can go down to 100,000. Keep in mind, the UK has nearly 11.5 million people who are over the age of 65.

I guess they are all lying to use then. I suppose you personally expect 3000-5000 dead Americans per day in the coming months? You must.
