A Dad Moment I'll never Forget!!

School starts tomorrow. The wife is at the Middle School preparing the kitchen and I'm at home with our soon to be 12 year old. He says to me yesterday that he has a surprise for me today. So this morning when we're alone he announces that he wants to learn to shave. So I take him into my bathroom and show him an array of pre shaving balms, shaving creams, and after shave lotions. He says "Let's not make this a tutorial!!!" So I dig out Grandpa's double edged safety razor. I think it's a good idea to practice without a blade. So I have him wash his face to soften the non existent hair, and try to show him how to apply shaving cream. You can imagine that his entire face was covered including his ears, lips, nose etc... So we practice. I show him the direction of the blade, not to press too hard, be extra careful around his nose and mouth... Does very well. Now to put a real blade in...Again he does really well, no blood loss or calls to 911. He cleans up, puts on some after shave lotion and looks great. Made me promise not to tell mom, he wants to see if she notices!! Later he comes in the computer room, hugs me, and says "Thanks Dad!!" I may keep him after all.

This is awesome. My son is 13 and is "growing a mustache" i.e. faint fuzz. I look forward to showing him the ropes as well.

Holy smokes, soon to be 12 and already shaving? Wow, my almost 15 yr old is still losing teeth and has just one tiny little hair under his armpits. He is a late bloomer I guess

Great story, I did the same with my son - he could stand on my bathroom sink and use his little plastic razor, now he's 6'1".

Around 16, I got him a nice safety razor, some great Feather blades, he also like the vintage Gillette Silver Blues as well.

At around 17, I taught him how to use a straight razor, he loves it, now all he uses, and I constantly have to remind him to clean and strop the razor when he's done!

Great story, enjoy the time, it goes by so fast.....

That’s a great story!
I just taught my 15 year old to shave this year myself.
He uses a cartridge razor for now, but he’s practicing with my, and his grandfathers, double edged safety razors, brush, soaps, building a good lather, etc. Anyone can shave with a bic razor and a can of goo, but there’s a lot more to a great shave!

Oh no!!! He doesn't need to shave, there isn't a hair on his face. He just wanted to learn. That's why I was surprised at his request!!! It was fun though!!!!!

My 9 year-old rushed in to show me the thinnest of hair on his legs, he says to me "That's because I'm becoming a man."
