World's most expensive car

The Rolls-Royce Sweptail with a glass roof was the world's most expensive car at $13M in 2017.

Then the Bugatti La Voiture Noire was the world's most expensive car at $19M in 2019.

And now Rolls-Royce Boat Tail is the world's most expensive car at $28M 2021.

The Second $28 Million Rolls-Royce Boat Tail Is Inspired By The Mother Of Pearl 2022:

Yeah, they’re all awesome and all but I doubt I will ever be at justifying 28m for a depreciating asset money. Even if I get there I doubt I could stomach that price tag.

Not sure if it still is, but the most valuable car (insured valuable) used to be the RR Silver Ghost. Built on a 40/50 chassis, it was painted silver with bright work made of German silver. If I remember correctly, that car was owned by a salesman who brought it back to RR in the 40’s with over 1,000,000 miles on it. The engine was torn down to find little to no wear. This car is the epitome of why RR was known as the best car in the world. Today, finding a RR with over 100k on it is a feat. The Silver Ghost sits in the museum at Goodwood and last I read was insured for over $100MM.

$28 million??? For what exactly? Is all the metal in the interior solid gold? RR are certainly amazing cars. But $28 MILLION??? Foolishness!

I would seriously be interested to know that if Rolex is considered a luxury, then what adjective can be used for these cars?

I believe you're right about Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost costing more than these. I was talking about modern cars.

I guess it'd be like this fashion pyramid:

Most expensive new car.

Old Merc was sold for 142 million dollars.

So earlier I was right about Rolex being an affordable watch for the middle class too, but at the same time I was wrong about Rolex not being a luxury brand, as this brand is the perfect example of Accessible Luxury. Moreover, Rolex is probably the only watch manufacturer that perfectly covers and therefore dominates this class.

Thanks for the diagram, now I better understand a lot of things!

Colossal wastes of money for even a billionaire. For a new car especially. At least get a classic at that price like a 250 GTO. Better yet anyone that wants to spend this much on a car when a “regular” Rolls Royce is a few hundred grand, should donate more money to charities.

They’re all luxuries because none of us need any of these things. Yes, Rolex is a luxury watch. That doesn’t make ultra-high-end watchmaker like RM, but no one needs a Rolex.

Where can one drive such a car? Or, is it intended to be admired in the garage.

I think I'd rather have a light jet. At least I could travel in it.

Read about this in a nautically themed magazine. Three to be built. This is known as "coach-built". They also commissioned Bovet to make 2 timepieces for the car.

The Rolls gets my vote. I’ve always wanted a Rolls. Looks like I’m going to have to save a bit more than I originally planned. On the bright side I can get the Grey Poupon

I’m not really into cars but the RR Boat Tail is stunning.

Worth the money? I certainly will never need to worry about that question.

This to me is no different than the numbered license plates in Dubai. If you think paying $28M for a car is extreme, imagine paying $14M for a little metal placard for your car.

https://blog.dupontregistry.com/feat...icense-plates/

It's all about the "look at how much money I have" aspect at this point.

If that’s true, I’ll take the car you buy that license plate.

When I used to go to the UK for business, I learned that it's the same way there. I once saw a Rolls with the plates CLA55Y. I mentioned it in a meeting and someone said the plates were worth more than the car. Maybe not Dubai-insane, but along those lines.

If we could get Paul into one of these, I'm sure it would help with the young shopgirls.

Perfect for matching the house in south of France .. (that I don't have :p )

I think these are objects for the people who buys $28M cars like we buy $280 G-Shocks. Their dinners bill probably cost more than the watch that we are wearing right now.
