See if you can get the LG C1 (last year model at Costco) or a Sony A80J. These two are OLED. If not OLED, you can try Sony X95K or Samsung QN90A or TCL R635.
I would avoid Vizio and Hisense.

+1

LG OLED C series is pretty much the best bang for your buck you can get. We’ve got a house full of them with no problems.

you can save money with the C1 over the C2 LG... if you want the best, get a g2 evo or the Sony OLED... if you are in the USA.

I went from Panasonic Plasma to Sony LCD, now on my second and they are absolutely great. I'm overly trusting of Korean or Chinese electronics..

LG brand for the win. Stay away from Vizeo and the unknown name brands.

Timely thread as I too was looking at upgrading from an early model HDTV and to a 65".

Went into Costco and looked at the 65" LG OLED and Samsung NEO QLED. Both about $1600. What's the thought from the group on these two options?

I went with the C1 on sale. I like the Sony OLED picture for movies but had to go LG for the NVIDIA G Sync. The C1 I find puts up a much better color accuracy than my older B series LG OLED. I'm surprised Sony hasn't focused on variable refresh rates like LG has. I guess they won't have true VRR until Playstation 6 or 7 though, so maybe why.

So long as you don't watch cable news all day with banners on screen and/or plan to use for outdoor type viewing environment with high levels of light, I think you will like the picture on the OLED more for everyday viewing. The QLEDs look great in store because of all the ambient light, but cranked up so bright at home is never the same. Especially dark room/movie viewing. As for sports, pixel response is much quicker on OLEDs, so you will from my experience get a much better fast motion picture without the tiniest bit of motion blur. My opinion at least owning a number of high end displays and techs. The only picture that can compete with OLEDs today are the ancient Pioneer Kuro Elites.

I lean towards the LG OLED C1/C2. As long as you're not watching cable tv 24/7, I think the issue of burn-in and image retention are less of an issue as LG does have an aggressive pixel refresher. However, if the room is super bright, then go for QLED from Samsung or an LED from Sony.

TVs I avoid - Vizio and Hisense

My B6 has burn in, which is really on OLEDs just certain color pixels aging more quickly than others. Orange, Red and Yellow are the biggest offenders from my experience. So CNN, Fox News and HULU yellow ad box (in the top right as if we don't know already we are watching a commercial lol). Knock on wood I have not had an issue with my C1 yet. To me the perfect blacks are well worth the potential issues though because picture quality is top rate. I think LG improved the pixel aging issue over the years though as the B6 is from 2016. Samsung has an interesting take on OLED (not their QLED, but actual OLED) that they started producing and is used in Alienware's new AW3423dw 3440x1440p ultawide monitors that is less prone to burn-in. Micro LED looks promising as well but that is years away from being mainstream in pricing. If you can find a C1 it imo gives 99% the picture the C2 does and at discounted pricing. The C2 gets brighter, but I think the C1 is plenty bright for home use.

Helpful to me for our second home. Looks like LG C1 is the leader.

Another vote for LG OLED here.

I believe Sony uses LG's OLED panels for consumer TVs, but they use their own processors. My aging eyes can't really tell the difference between Sony & LG, but LG was on sale.

LG OLED. With Labor Day and football season coming up there will be lots of sales.

eyeing a 83" g2 sometime soon as my 65" LG is getting dated at 2 years. More important to me than a 41mm OP at retail.

Interesting that Samsung isn't on anyone's list anymore.

I think you will see more size options for the QD OLED next year. Samsung already brought it out in 3440x1440p but of course that’s a monitor. Seems like the have some flexibility in their panel sizing though.

Exactly the same panels. LG generally keeps the higher binned panels for themselves but Sony has superior video processors. That said LG production OLEDs are more feature rich than Sony. G Sync is one large advantage for LG. Also you can use an external GPU as a video driver directly and/or in a house server. I use a RTX 3090 the version of which can drive up to 2 HDMI and 3 DisplayPort 1.4 simultaneously. Tied to a 12 core or greater and 24 thread or greater CPU (Intel 12900 variations, AMD 5900 or 5950 variations or any Threadripper would be ideal) and should be no problem driving all displays in the house at the same time.
