They’re out there…..
I know with all the “Is it safe to wear to this city?” Threads most won’t read past this paragraph. I hesitated to even post but I personally experienced a very sketchy encounter yesterday. Figure it would be best to post and reiterate we all need to stay vigilant these days.
A little pretext. I’m in my late 30’s, relatively fit, not approachable looking but am told I have a rugged look. Rarely do I get approached by anyone, especially women. Yesterday I met up with an Uncle at a local brewery. We ordered food and drinks and made our way out to play cornhole. He had never played so I was letting him get some practice shots in as I explained the rules. Less than 8 of his practice shots in a quite stunning, early 20’s, 6’ tall, Eastern European, scantily clad, blonde walks up and asks if we want to play teams. She came out of nowhere. Didn’t see her anywhere in the bar or outside seating area (granted, I was distracted by like 10 different dogs that all needed pets and ear scratches on my way from the bar to the cornhole boards) but still not the kind of woman you miss when scanning the area. This was my first red flag, myself or my uncle aren’t the kind of guys women come out of the woodwork for. I presumed they were just bored as it was around lunch time. Once we agreed to play teams her “partner” shows up. This dude was Eastern European as well, about 5’6”, bad haircut, early 20’s, clean clothes, fit and was wearing what looked like a tt omega sea master on his wrist. He decides his “girlfriend” goes to my side while he and my uncle are across the playing field. (Red flag #2, who sends their hot girlfriend to rub elbows with the closest competition in the place?) At this point my ears are perked up because something is afoot. She starts asking me 1000 questions. Personal questions, I.e. where I live, what I do, where I personally like to go out, etc. I felt like it was a first date mixed with an interrogation. At this point I’m giving the vaguest of answers and not even responding to some. Because this was a brewery, my beer was in a glass and it was on the table behind me. I realized I had lost sight of my beer and her quite a few times while taking my cornhole shots. It didn’t help she did not have a bra on and constantly bent over “displaying” everything in front of me. I did notice this whole time that neither her or him had drinks. She was supposedly from Wisconsin and he was from Chicago. They met on tinder. I decided it best to throw my beer in the bushes. Set my glass back down and was going to take my shots then go get new beers. I took my shots and this is where it got weird. She looks at me holding the empty glass and says “I didn’t see you drink your beer, did you throw it in the bushes? Why would you do that?” I responded with a dumb look and that it was warm. At this point knowing something is definitely afoot. Never in my 20 yrs of drinking in all sorts of bars, clubs, pubs, parties and the like there is not a single time I can remember of a woman caring about what happened to my beer. I texted my uncle they were trying to scam us and not to drink his beer. I walked behind him and the guy and him were talking. I was behind him, grabbed his beer and threw it in the bushes in full view of the man and woman. Then walked back into the bar to grab the replacement beers. When I came back my uncle asked what happened to his beer and I said I threw it out, then whispered in his ear they’re trying to scam us and he said “yeah, he told me a busboy came and picked up my beer. He also told me she is the one asking questions when I asked her a question that she asked me before answering. “ At this point they apparently realized we were on to them and demeanor completely changed and they said “we will just let you two practice by yourselves.” And were gone as quickly as they came in. I fully believe this was an attempt to drug me and rob me. All other suggestions don’t add up with all the pieces of evidence. Be vigilant out there and if something abnormally different from the norm happens take a closer look, it’s probably something sketchy. Even if it turns out it isn’t you listened to your gut and got away unscathed. If it helps this is a coastal Florida city of about 400k people. There was only about 50 people at the venue total (inside and out). I’ve been to this place many times day and night and this is the first event of this kind to happen to me in this town since I was roofied in 2010 at a different bar. Also, I let the bartender know and he was super helpful and attentive. He said he thought they were with us and when I said no he said “oh, yeah, that’s super weird. I will keep an eye on em bro.” I just wanted to let them know in case someone else got rolled later in the evening. Sent from my Apple privacy invasion product |

But seriously man, every time I’ve ignored my intuition, something weird happened. Last time I did it, I had a watch stolen at a “sale” at a frickin BANK! Smart moves and good on ya for sniffing that out. Unreal story.

Stay vigilant, gents!
Like the other Jesse said (though he spells his name wrong ), don't ignore your intuition. It does seem like there are a lot more scammers and thieves out there, and the way watches have skyrocketed lately, I think this is to be expected.

I have seen this game at a number of overseas bars. It's more common than you would think. Usually ends up with a robbery in a hotel room and a gent embarrassed to report it.

It’s not even a drink they buy you. They’re just spiking YOUR drink. In many cases the victims bought the criminal a drink!

Nothing better than a keen eye and good sense of awareness. I'm glad you picked up on the scam and shut it down!

This is the epitome of situational awareness. The only other thing I would have done is take pics of the hottie in action and posted it to your " You can do this with your Bluesy" thread, otherwise great job!

Yes, we were safe. Didn’t feel unsafe throughout it. I posted this more to give an example to others here of what to look for and how to react while maintaining safety. Also to show it can be unsafe or safe anywhere in the world, you just need to be vigilant and know your strengths and weaknesses. Sent from my Apple privacy invasion product |

Hahahahaha, yeah. Not going to lie, the lady’s early 20’s goods may have made a fleeting pass through my mind a couple times today. Definitely would have been a “it’s fairly safe to wear your bluesy in this situation” comments. I guess I will know if it happens again!! Sent from my Apple privacy invasion product |

Well done, sir An drink left unattended, is a drink not to be consumed. Especially in the presence of strangers. Better safe than sorry.
In another life, that is my past seafaring career, I've often found myself in questionable places and in questionable company. Situational awareness has saved my a$$ 99% of times. The 1% I owe to sheer chance. Had it been otherwise, it's of the non-survivable stuff
