5970 vs 5270?

I am starting to debate my next Patek purchase. I am dead set on either getting the 5970 or the new 5270. I like the 5970r aesthetically the most and the 5970p the second most but there is a big difference in price. I am debating going with the new 5270. Obviously it is only made in white at this time. I would love your overall thoughts and thoughts on short and long term collectibility of each piece. Thanks in advance!

For me it is really simple: 5970P all the way followed by the 5970G and R. The 5270 is nice but to me the 5970 is the one to own without a doubt! Just my opinion and in terms of collectiblity for sure. All are nice at that level and you can't go wrong with any of them. Cheers,

I'll have tp go with Highlander on this one!

A busier dial perhaps but a classic nonetheless! Both are nice but I think I have a preference for the 5970 (in yellow or rose gold for me though)!

If I could only choose only one of the two it would be the 5270G. IMO it is far superior technically and better looking as well!

If you're looking for an investment buy the 5970!

Both are great but I'd choose 5270G (in fact I did). :)

Mike, I know th 5270 I a mm bigger. People say it feels much larger than the 5970. My only issue with pateks is that most feel smaller than the mm or smaller than say a Rolex at he same mm. I don't have that issue with my 5980r. Thoughts?

Ps- thanks for all the perspectives

Actually the 5970 is 42mm and the 5270 is 42mm. My 5070P is same size as 5970P and it wears perfectly!!

The 5270 wears much bigger than the 5970. It's substantially longer and the dial is far bigger!

I love the look of the 5970 and kick myself for not having gotten it when I had the chance. Having said that, I still prefer the clean look and larger size of the 5270 even better. Some of the aurguements previously posted regarding the collectibility of the 5970 are certainly true, at least until the 5270 is retired off into the sunset, than we'll be talking about how great a collectors piece that is.
Either one would be a grail piece in most collections, so from that angle I don't believe there's a wrong choice here.

For those that have both, all I can say is you're very fortunate and I'm very jealous .

The 5270 is a superior and complete in-house Patek movement. That is why there is a significant price difference. Both are beautiful though.

That is why the 5970P costs more you mean? There is a significant price difference except it is the other way around....Sorry.

Perhaps he is talking about the difference in retail prices? I know the 5970 is much more expensive but wasn't it cheaper when it came out (say, if you compare both prices on a price list)?

I'm just trying to guess because I know the older models (such as the 5970 and your 5070) don't come cheap...
