Reluming an Aviator 8
Hi Folks,
just a quick shout out to Kent Parks at kparks@everestwatchworks.com for the fantastic job in changing the lume paint from faux patina to white on my Aviator 8. That was the only thing I did not like about the watch, and now, for a very reasonable charge, it is perfect! Easy to work with; highly recommended. |

So it’s not faux patina. Where is it written that lume must only be stark white while dials can be any color?? Someone want to answer me that?

Looks great OP. IMO it looks much better than the original fau... In my opinion it looks better than the original historically-enhanced, prematurely aged lume.

Agree; also, could have picked other colors (green, yellow,..) but I liked the white.

Looks like they did a great job! I'm not the biggest fan of artificially aged lume.

Did the original have white lume or off-white/brown lume? You are 100% correct that many watches came with off-white/brown lume when brand new in the 1950s, 60s, 70s, whenever. It's also entirely plausible that a brand new reference can employ off-white/brown lume as a design choice without the intention of invoking a "heritage" look. Commonly, nowadays, I think it is fair to assume that there are also many "heritage" designs with off-white/brown lume could be characterized as faux patina if the original was not old with that lume color. |

Looks fantastic
Looks great. I've reached out to Kent regarding my 1971 AirKing 5500. Don't know whether to go with vintage tinted lume plots or just plain new relume. Can you post lume shot under low light?
Best regards, |
