Serial number 514xxxx

I have looked at multiple sources online, some are stating it to be from 1977, while others have stated 1978.

Keying my serial number into this resource yields 1978: https://www.bobswatches.com/rolex-serial-numbers

While other resources such as this, yields 1977: https://beckertime.com/lookup-rolex-serial-by-year/

Can anyone clear up this discrepancy for me?

I would date it to 1977.

Agreed with Lee. I'd err on the side of 1977.

If it's a birth year watch then look at it as accounting for baking time.

Yes, I'd agree closer to '77, but no one knows 100 percent. (FYI, this forum has its own fine serial number chart: https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=54362).

As for the discrepancy, that's because all of the charts online are put together by dealers/hobbyists. Rolex itself doesn't release this information.

Roll the dice. 1977 or 1978 but as Swish wrote, probably closer to 1977.
