Just spent a week with my new GMT Master 16700

Hi All,

I just got back from a week long trip and brought along my recently acquired GMT Master 16700.

While packing for the trip I kept flip-flopping on which watch to bring; the "new" GMT or the 16610 Submariner. I decided then, whenever I travel overnight - even within the same time zone - I'll wear the GMT.

I am so impressed with this watch, I checked it against my atomic clock when I got home and it is +/- 0 seconds! The Jubilee got a little tight at times so I will add the half-link I removed when I first sized it. I also though I would miss the lume (non glowing tritium) but I didn't.

All-in-all I am super pleased with my purchase and now that I'm home I get to wear my Submariner again!

Here are a couple of pictures:

Great choice..

The 16700 sees a lot of wrist time from my stable.. A true classic.

Back around the time the Beatles had their first No.1, I was a 12 year-old living in rural Scotland. Just down the road was the Timex factory so you can guess what I got for my 10th birthday. My sophisticated Great-Aunt in Detriot used to send us parcels of stuff, which always included Time and National Geographic magazines.
It was through that medium and at that impressionable age that I first became aware of the Rolex brand, and in particular the GMT Master. I pored over the ads in those magazines for hours, imagining what it must be like to wear this thing of beauty and utility.
There was one colour ad which was almost full-size in scale, so I carefully cut the GMT Master out and stuck it to a piece of card which I then trimmed to suit.
I wore that cardboard GMT until it fell apart. I didn't care that people laughed.
I've worn many watches in the intervening years, I bought a Breitling Top Time chronograph when I was 18 [£30.00 new!], plus the usual suspects – Seiko, Citizen etc.
I even had one of the first Rolex Oysterquartz which a friend sold me for £50.00 and I sold on later.
Now my watch case holds, among others, that old faithful Breitling, a Speedy Pro and a 1992 Submariner 16610; but on my wrist where it always belonged, is my 1998 GMT Master 16700.

Thanks all, and great story Gordon!

I had been looking for a white dialed Datejust but when I saw Dan's picture of his GMT on a super jubilee I was hooked and had to have one.

No one has mentioned it, but when I was taking the above pictures I realized my clothes matched the bezel! It's not something I purposely tried to do but I think they work well together.

Cheers Tim. Which year is your GMT? Mine is still lumeing [if that's a word] after 15 or so years. The white gold indices don't show clearly on your pics, assume that's a trick of the light.
Nice clothing combo by the way!

The serial number starts with N so I'm guessing 1991. The clasp code is P5, which is May of 1991 if I'm reading that right.

Here's a clearer picture of the dial, I tried to take a couple myself but they were not as clear as the pictures the seller had:

Hey- I could print that out, stick it on some card and.....
Seriously, that indices thing must have been a lighting glitch and as it's a 91 your lume will be well gone by now, mine is fading fast.
Still my favourite Rolex bar none - and it has to be Pepsi.

Congrats for your 16700.

Now, to enjoy it more you should try,

a bit of black bezel,

with some black leather red stiches,

a blue combination

or a goldish -tabac one.
