i was told that some models go for 10-15k over list (like the daytona) so they are kept in the safe and only sold to the best customers (like daytona), but i dont really know much about pateks so dont know which ones they are....(and likely dont care since the only ones i like are the 5146j and a couple that list for $250k; unless someone else hits the lottery and buys it for me, i think my limit is the one)
I think the Patek equivalent of the Daytona is the SS Nautilus and the prices over list are amazing. Esecially the Nautilus models with chrono and moon phase complications. Watchtime had a good sport watch feature awhile back and it noted the similar cult following.

You want the best, buy Patek Phillippe. You want a "deal," you buy a "Pateklica Fauxlippe!"

Sorry, couldn't resist how clever I am with words!!!

Croc skin is considered leather. And I'm not sure what you mean by common. Were you expecting rubber? If so, there is one model in the Patek line up that comes with rubber straps.

But the basic contention here is that Pateks are generally dress watches, and in adherence to horological tradition, dress watches generally come with leather straps, and in some rare occassions, a bracelet is offered, Rolex notwithstanding. I happen to like tradition and Patek straps are very comfortable and well selected.

Sorry about the colour of the watch, I must have linked in the wrong image, but like I said, the homework is easily done.

now THAT is an EXCELLENT question! how is Patek on issues of reliability, service, and durability?

Patek's are very reliable, but they are not built to be abused like Rolex. My Patek's both keep better time than my Rolex. That's just in my opinion and experience.

And if you have an old Patek, there is no question about them not servicing it for you. If they do not have the spare parts available, they will make them from scratch. Will Rolex do that for you? Fat chance.
