Incoming 16750 Project!

Some of you might recognize this 16750 from another forum, any way it arrived yesterday and is my latest project! Comes with an amazing story and I am owner number three (story later). It is a 630#### serial which puts it at 1979 I think and comes on a 93150 with a VD stamp and have been told that the bracelet has always been on it! It is a non runner and also had the bezel and insert missing. It would appear to have had a very hard life and little or no polishing, it is booked in with my Watchmaker for Monday and I shall be keeping this thread updated as and when. I spent 5 minutes this morning with the PolyWatch and offered up a bezel and insert that I had.

I don't think it was a Rolex Dealer just a local watchmaker.

Good luck with the repairs/restoration Lee. As you know, that is a very early production 16750. A few months ago, I purchased a very early one myself. It has a 6.1 million serial number which is the earliest one that I have seen to date. Yours also is a very early production at 6.3 million.

Thanks John, one thing I have noticed is the font of the Swiss - T <25 is that the T looks like Serif font.

Yes Lee, the GMT 16750 could have originally had a "factory equipped" 93150 bracelet!!!

Below is a photo of a USA 16750 warranty paper with the style number on the green sleeve and warranty paper indicating it was originally fit with the 93150 bracelet. (The 9315 at the end of the style number indicates the bracelet is an Oyster 93150. If it is an Oyster 78360 bracelet, it reads 7836 and for a 62510 Jubilee, it would read 6251.) Hopefully this clears up the GMT 16750/93150 concerns.

Additionally, the GMT II 16760 could also have come with the 93150 Oyster bracelet.

yea i recognize the watch and good you snagged it. if i was you i would simply get the thing running, clean off the crud, slap on a crown and keep it as-found. polishing the crystal and installing your bezel is as far as i would go with the cosmetic restoration.

nice catch and hope you got it cheap as i got the impression the owner was fishing for buyers with her "help" requests and stories. i'm sure the movement won't be any big challenge to get serviced.

Yes, her thread wasn't terribly subtle. I'm glad to see it went into someone's hands who will appreciate it and bring it back to life!

I'm hoping you can get the right parts to put this together again, ... but once you do?
What an incredible dial! Those indices and hands are amazing! Such a deep and rich amber - - that's patina to the extreme, without chipping or missing lume . . .WOW!
Congratulations on a beautiful "project" watch, Lee! Be well,
