Recommendations in 5k to 6k Range
I am bored with my 16570 explorer 2. She is sexy, but I dont wear her cause she is crisp and clean. I am looking for a vintage piece in the 5k to 6k range. I would prefer an unpolished piece. I prefer sport models. What do you guys recommend I look for or perhaps save up more for?

I could be very mistaken, but it has been my observation that you are almost between price tiers. You can get an older Datejust for 3-4K, or a Speedmaster. You could also save for a little longer in order to get to the 7-9k range where I think you start seeing Subs/SD. Just my two cents, and I am sure others who have far more knowledge will chime in. Best of luck!!

Can't go wrong with a 14060 or 14060M Sub, they're workhorses.

In this price range I would go for an early 16610. I love vintage looking cases with exposed lug holes. There are plenty for sale so you have probably a couple available locally. Good luck!

Anything in my price range with aged yellow/creamy lume? Sports watches are probably double my price range like this. I would venture out into DJs and others. I just enjoy a watch with more patina then a 90s piece.

A late 80s 5513 Submariner might still be found in your price range?
Would have white gold surrounds, but the tritium lume would take on patina. |

This isn't a bad option
https://www.hqmilton.com/timepieces/...ner-16800-A296 You could prob source matching hands at the next service from somewhere like LAWW. |

If you move into the $7K-$8K range, you would have access to 5-digit sports models with tritium dial/hands, such as the 16700-16710, 16800-16610, 14060 and maybe even the 16600.
Just be patient. The nice examples with matching tritium on the dial/hands, and especially with patina, are very, very hard to find. I've been searching for a good example of a 16600 for many months, and they're just not out there. |

The matte dial 16800 subs are sexy! I can see what happens on these old subs. People send them into a RSC and they replace the hands when the tritium wears off. Then you got the hodge podge of tritium looking different from hands and dial. Looks like I need to just save up and get what I really want rather than stair stepping things.

X5 - I still feel the 14060 and 14060m are great values - the tritium dials can be hard to find, but be patient.
In that price range I’m also a fan of the Tudor Big Blocks from the early 90s - they’ve gone up in price quite a bit the last three years, but the Big Block is a great chronograph with a robust movement and a nice alternative to vintage Subs. |

Pretty sure I saw a 1980’s 16800 sell here last week in that exact range. Not sure if this model is a desirable one or not but would take that as a sign that they’re out there.
And fwiw, I paid 2800 for my 168000. If I hadn’t discovered this forum and begun doing some research I likely would have considered selling in the 4K range and thought I’d done well! |

A good head only 5513 transitional can be had in that range, or a 14060 tritium dialed watch.

Something to consider, while the $5k-$10k range may be a stretch for you, you’ll be getting in to a piece that will have greater upside potential and will be easier to move in the even you have to sell...
