1675 With Cool Provenance

This watch recently sold at auction in IA. Belonged to Leonard Swan, a test pilot for Grumman and Pratt and Whitney.

In 1960, while in his role of test pilot, he set a world record for speed, altitude and endurance in the Grumman OV-1 Mohawk at which time, according to the family, he was given the offered watch.

The watch was accompanied by a copy of a letter of appreciation mentioning Leo Swan and the records set by him in the Mohawk and a color photograph of the flight test crew in front of the plane.

Sold for $35,000 - anyone here pick it up or can we expect to see it on HQ Milton for $70K+

Is that gilt dial? Dang what a nice find. Such a good condition for a 50 yr old watch.

I blame it on autoconnect.

Indeed this one was nice, I tried to grab it as I was bidding on the phone, but the price went a bit high.

I don't understand, how do you get that to a gilt dial? Not trying to be rude, just trying to learn and understand. To me it looks very white.

Nice watch cool story. With prices these days 35K does not seem crazy, maybe the replacement dial hurt the price.
