!! WARNING !! - Ebay Seller retrogamingve Selling Fake "Swiss" Watches

So, I decided to purchase a VERY RARE Swiss Army Airboss Mach 6 Power Gauge 241308 Limited Edition of 333.

Feel free to look it up, eBay item number: 153015318546. Below are pics of the “GEM” I just received in the mail today.

Be warned! This seller, retrogamingve, is also selling other higher end products.

Not 100% sure who they stole the photos from of # 234 from, but I think this is the site: www.righttime.com/rt/swiss_army/241308.htm. Again, if I was the current owner of #234 I would be concerned!

Long story short this person created a fake positive feedback profile in a short period of time. Once they had a few positives they used that to “pose” as a legitimate seller. Their scam is this. They list as being out of Florida. Once you unwittingly and legitimately pay for a high end item through ebay you get a tracking number from Venezuela. Odd, right? They will then make up some story about how their dad is traveling there at the moment with the item and will drop it off as a convenience for you with DHL today rather than waiting to return to the states to mail.

Unreal ebay can’t do a better job weeding these folks out. Anyway, I have a claim with ebay and I imagine if they can’t get this worked out soon my credit card company will. Hope this helps save someone else in the market!

Seller is now claiming dhl tampered with the package. Sure.

Ebay high dollar resolution dept sucks so far.  They said the buyer has 5 days to send me a return label. Great policy ebay...just allow clear cut scammers to get a week to potentially rip others off too in the process selling more fake goods until finally shut down once all your internal processes are followed since zero common sense can be applied.

As explained by ebay resolution dept if a seller does not send a return label then the buyer can then escalate but ebay will not make a determination on pics alone.

The buyer will then have to take the counterfeit pos to a independent watchmaker and pay out of their pocket for a appraisal and verification of the counterfeit item. Per ebay resolution dept, they are not in a judiciary position. Really?

Anyway, the process from there is the buyer returns the independent appraisers report back to ebay and they contact the independent watchmaker to verify and make their determination within a few more days.

Talk about a nightmare!!!!

I know you guys always say stay off ebay but it's hard sometimes when seeking a limited edition. Not really sure what the lesson learned here was but I hope this helps to somehow safeguard another good standing member of this community.

By the way here is what the legitimate VSA swiss watch should look like.

Funny my 3 year old knows the difference in all of 5 seconds but ebay high dollar resolution department can not make that determination.

Extremely unsettling to say the least that ebay can apply zero common sense or practical judgement to such matters!

Couldn't find the pics with a quick search either, but I am sure they are out there.

However, I did find where he stole the opening paragraph in his ad verbiage from:
http://forums.watchuseek.com/f29/-a-1683226.html

It will no doubt be an exercise in frustration, but as long as you follow all of the "buyer protection" protocols and time-lines, you should get your money back.

Always pay via PP using a credit card. Talk to the CC, open a dispute, ship the 'watch' to seller and sidestep the BS. So much for buyer protection.

Even without an authentication report from a watch maker it doesn't take a genius to realise this isn't the same watch they advertised.

Hope you get your money back

I've said a few times on this site when people are considering taking a chance on an eBay watch and believe they are covered due to the eBay guarantee. I've lost out on the guarantee before, it's not 100%.

In your situation I'd probably contact your credit card company asap.

I wish you would have posted for advice first, you selected the wrong thing.

You selected ‘counterfeit’ item as your reasoning. Ebays process to verify this is legitimate and simple protocol. A buyer will try to say something like a LV bag is fake, but it’s not, therefore they need proof.

You didn’t get a replica watch, you got the WRONG item entirely. You would have to jump through no hoops for this process. Ah, feel bad for you, as chances are slim you’re getting it rectified since everything is already submitted.

Ebay should make you whole, they usually do. I always video the opening of packages of any high value items bought from ebay. Lesson learned.

Sometimes they will ask for proof that the box in the video is the one the seller shipped

Tracking numbers don't lie. Sure, I guess you could dress up any package and claim it came from the seller. I just video, it makes me feel better. I've had several cases with ebay, and any kind of picture or video evidence helps your case, especially if you have a good reputation with them as buyer and/or seller with lots of positive feedback. Buyer wins 95% of the time anyway, they are very buyer friendly.

Why haven't you left negative feedback already to warn other potential buyers. This scammer has several other high value items including watches listed.

I hate to say it but it's because ebay provides buyers with zero protection in return. If I leave honest feedback the scammer in return will leave false negative comments and its taken me well over a decade to build a flawless reputation. Best I can do is post on the forums in lieu of this.

Seller can't leave negative feedback. That ability was removed years ago for just scenario.
