That's a tough one. I would normally say less is more, but the 5170 and platona are two of my very favourites, so in this case I would get those. Personally I would get the 5270 over the 5970.

thanks, 5970's dial is a bit more appealing to me, more balanced I guess. From movement perspective, 5270 is better.

5170G first then Platona. Now 5970G that is a much more expensive watch of course and would be hard to top that IMHO.

Thanks Ken. Is Platona a bit too heavy to wear everyday?

No but it is heavy. I can tell you that the 5170G is awesome as is the 5960P with black dial. I had the grey then the blue but for me black is tops. Also not many were made and it had very short run of 6-7 months or so. All are nice watches and really depends on taste and budget. If I were ranking mine: 5960P black would be first followed by 5170G then Platona. That is my personal opinion based on owning them.

5970. Plato refers more to the platinum Datograph but I presume you mean Platona.

It depends, do you already have a large collection? If so I'd go 5970G, if not I'd go for the 5170G and Platona.

What do you think of the 5270G (2014 chin) in blue or white dial?

Ken and RussW, what would be your choice based on collectibility? Thanks all.

5970G but also that is same price as 5170G and Platona combined.

Thanks for asking my opinion, but I'm just a rookie As well as Ken, the real experts on here are those such as conkers, myopiccoog and khalidss, to name a few.

As far as collectability, who knows? What I can say is I prefer the 5270 without chin if I was buying one for myself.

You may have decided agsinst it already, but what about a SS daytona if you must have one in your collection?

I also find that the original 5270 dial is too "gray" under less intense lighting for my personal taste, so for color preference I'd go with blue!

5970... now that is an awesome watch.

The 5270 dial is out off control spectacular. It is sometimes blue, grey silver, and white. It looks terrible in a showroom. Here it is in the car.

bTW I can't tell you enough how much I love your 5204! I was offered one last october and punted. You pics make me regret that decision. Wear in good health.

So no to double chins!

Is it 5270 more reliable than 5970? How about 5004P? Anyone can PM me the price for 5204P (probably out of my budget though)?

5004 is a true classic, but on the smaller side. My first love was the 5004 until I saw the 5204, which is 3mm larger, in house, and technically improved over the Lemania movement. Whether it's better is truly a matter of personal preference though.

In house blows the lemania away. I am not biased I own 2 lemania and 1 in house. Not even close!

The 5204P is $317K USD for US ADs or 265K Swiss Francs (or the local currency equivalent) for the rest of the world.

I tried on the 5204P at an AD a few months ago. It is several mm thicker than the 5270G and felt a bit bulky compared to the 5270G.
