Icon20 Are some sellers misleading buyers ?

I was looking at this

Here's an example I really tried to like and make an offer

Now, I'm not an expert but this is described as case is in great condition, is it a stretch on this ?

It's also described as might most likely been polished, how can the seller say most likely? lugs rounded, spring bar holes looked a little deformed. Bracelete shows pretty good scratches, granted its PCL gold but really ?

I know it's buyer beware but a 1 day return policy, kinda hard to get authenticated or a quick look at the movement even if your had a Rolex trained watchmaker right next door, I see no paper included work with it.

I could be way off here but wow Some of these descriptions are not accurate lately

Totally agree. Mint should mean mint. Excellent should mean excellent.

I dunno, pics are there.

I'm half expecting the seller to comment in a minute based on your "I tried to like and make an offer" comment

It kind of reads a bit like you made an offer beating the watch condition down and he maybe turned it down?

Either way, it doesn't read too OTT to me looking at the pics. Either way, may not be thread of its own worthy as it seems a bit bad form to me.

It's buyer beware on TRF unless you go with one of the top trusted sellers in my mind.

Agree. If you don't like it don't buy it. Pictures are there...

Going to start a whole thread to bash a member who has been here from 2009.

Lame.

I tried to make an offer. Talking myself into it. I didn't make an offer to seller.

Am I wrong about description not being accurate?

Bring on the flame throwers then. I would never make an offer and then make a post seemingly upset because the seller didn't take my offer

Buyer beware includes everyone. I have seen long term sellers work on the fringes of descriptions.

I agree. Don't buy it if you do not like it. Nothing to talk about.

Because being here since 2009 gives you a pass, right. And I did start a whole thread not a half thread, so I see someone pissed in your cereal today. My intent wasn't to bury this seller, I'm trying to clarify what I'm missing.

Pictures are there and are obviously pretty clear on the condition of the watch or we not be here. You are free to ask for more pictures. This thread could of been a good one if it was not taking aim at anyone in particular.

One should always be prepared to do their own due diligence on the watch, as well as the seller.

And I've seen many who are very conservative and honest in their descriptions, erring on the side of caution.

I'm having a great day.

Think you could have handled this differently (maybe just post pics of watch vs calling out seller as you have).

Hey, your style, no worries.

Don't like the watch then just move on.

My 02 and good luck with your hunt.

EDIT: I see you've removed link now that you had before

Called out the seller?? Didn't mention a name just posted the link. If anyone called out the seller you did, saying he's been here 9 years.

Have a great rest of your weekend.

My style ? no clue what you mean by that,

There's a GMT in sales form with serti dial that's for sale..

That should make less obvious instead of listing link.

Yup... Good catch by ronricks. Seconds hand covers it a bit in early pic but last one of dial shows it...

If "great condition" case is the issue and if great is somewhere between good and excellent, then the sellers description would seem valid at least as defined by this scale.

I have seen some trusted sellers be pretty liberal with their discription of their watches...sometimes I wonder if we are looking at the same watch.

Issues for me while some might argue the case is 'great' the GMT hand needs to be replaced and the crown is polished on the clasp which points to bad polishing. I don't think this thread was started in malice or to call someone out.

Wow.. quite a catch there Mr. Ron Ricks. It just smelled bad when I read the listing and had to ask questions.

Are we suppose to ask sellers if there is a bent hand or hidden damage ? The cream usually floats to the stop, so hats off to Tony, David and I hope to deal with Peter soon. I'm willing to bet this wouldn't happen with a few more sellers too.. Are we suppose to pry information out if sellers about damage ?? I guess we should...

The GMT hand also has scratches on it. Looks like all the hands are marked in some way.

Bracelet described as good. Ok, I may see that by pictures but who knows about stretch or link counts .. and yes again, my intent was not to call anyone out. Just wanted other opinions on this listing. I always try to ask about stretch and full links when looking too buy.
