Worth restoring?

A friend of mine gave me his beat up old seamaster 300m after it stopped working he didn’t want to invest any money in it. I think the bracelet may be beyond polishing it’s scratched pretty bad lol I made some inquiry’s basically $500 for a service $300 for a bezel replacement $185 for a crystal polish up the case maybe all in 1K and just put a leather or rubber strap on it what do you guys think?

Personally I would not polish or replace the bezel.

Service it and replace the crystal... then just wear the heck out of it.

It’s a cool looking watch in its current condition.

Yeah, I would get it working. It'll make a good one to wear shooting clay pigeons :-)

I would do it. BTW, Omega has an exchange program on the 1503/825 bracelet where they only charge about $300 for a new one. So, for a little over $1k, you essential have a new watch with two year warranty... a 2531.80 at that.

I would have it overhauled. I'd consider keeping the current bezel though.

YOu got a consensus here, but I'll ad to it: Yes have it clened/serviced. I wouldn't change the bezel either.

That's a classic. FIX IT. If you spend 1k to restore it you could probably sell for 2k.

And service for that should be 300, not 500. That's a simple movement...maybe less than 300.

No need to send to Omega. This watch isn't difficult for any watchmaker who has any experience.

It’s not really that bad. With a full service, it will come out rather nice.

Yes, decorated 2892-A2. But I’d still have Omega do it. I suggest New Jersey if that works for you.

I wasn’t aware of the bracelet exchange program so thanks for that tip!

Just get it cleaned oiled and adjusted with replacement of any broken parts.

My local watchmaker in a jewelry store charged me $150.00 for a COA on an Omega with same movement. They were an authorized Omega dealer before the company changed its AD policy with small jewelers. Handle all my vintage servicing with no issues. Been using them since 1986.

Perfect summer watch for The Hamptons.

Can't wait to see the results! It would be a shame to let it rot in a drawer.

Learned that from the Omega boutique staff. It doesn't cover all bracelets but does cover the 1503/825 because the pins and collars are notorious for wear. I was told it would be in the $300 to $350 range for a new one. Good deal IMO.

Take to an authorized Omega dealer for a quote. My bet is $1500 all in. Service, dial, band, etc., to get back to specification. From there you can make your decision. The quote is free!

That’s a cool friend! I’ve been looking at getting one of these and think that they look damn sweet a little beat up! Wear it with pride once you get it working again. Also for a really comfortable fun strap option check out MN straps by Erica’s Originals. They would look great with that watch! Cheers.

Brandon.

That deserves a tub up.

The movement should be easy and the rest is cosmetic.

I'd do it.

I’d service, replace the crystal just to you can see it better, reinstall bracelet and wear it until it required service again...it is a beauty and a servivor!
