Montblanc Rollerball vs Ballpoint question!

Hello!

Looking to purchase my first montblanc...

I love the rollerball but love the twist feature of the ballpoint. I will be using this pen everyday.

Does anyone recommend getting a rollberball gen refill that works with the montblanc ballpoint, so i can have that twist feature?

If not, ill most likely just get the rollerball, the flow of ink is perfect.

thanks,

I cant make a comparison for you as I only have a rollerball. However I do very much enciourage you to use the rollerball or the refill for the rollerball in a ball point if possible as their rollerball is really nice.

The only downside to the rollerball is that the refills last a few weeks at best. Ballpoint refills last a lifetime.

I think the preference depends on your writing style. Whether you hold your pen tight or lightly, you write with pressure or not.

For me I enjoy using rollerball much more than ballpoint because of its writing characteristics. I can write with very little force and it never skips. Rollerball doesn't dry up on me that quick yet.

Thank you for your help!

Ive only see monteverde rollerball refills that are made specifically for the ballpoint montblanc

Rollerball is nice for about 5 minutes (more like 5 seconds, really), then it is dry and you need a refill which costs zillions. The ballpoint lasts about 4 years.

Considering how little life the rollerball already offers in the intended pen, I think the life would be considerably less having a rollerball refill in a ballpoint pen. There's nothing to seal the ballpoint pen opening and I assume the extra exposure would cause the rollerball to dry prematurely.

I have exactly the same thing in my MB. As I said, I prefer it over the ballpoint. The tip doesn't dry out as most people would fear, even when I leave it un-used for days.

I have the Ballpoint and I like it alot, I tend to grip my pen tight and to push down a little hard anyway.

Hi TopNotchChach, here is side by side pictures.
Besides difference in color, rb writes smoother than bp, which is more suited for light handed writing.
I can't judge it lifetime since I have mine for only ~6 months with occasional use. I brought a pack of 2 in case they run out quickly. One thing for sure is that the tip doesn't dry out quickly while in use. Absolutely no worry about leaving the pen down for few minutes with tip exposed then ink doesn't come out.

^thanks!

So... your montblanc is really ballpoint with the twist function. But you are using a rollerball refill?

which refill are you using?

Yes, it is the Monteverde® Gel refill as you quoted, in medium size.

smartson,

This is exactly what I needed! Thank you so much for your informative post. I have a Meisterstuck Classique rollerball, as well as a MB Generations ballpoint. I love the rollerball, but with the pen in and out of the pocket, the Generations ballpoint is much more handy. Now I get to have the best of both worlds! (And I get to keep my better-looking Meisterstuck at home, safe, where I can't lose it; the Generations was from Costco ;)

Was your "Dark Blue" really the Black-Blue, or would that be darker than you example?
