Pen Show

I went to the Chicago Pen Show on Sunday and I usually buy one new pen every year at this show. This year, I got two.

First is a NOS Waterman fountain pen, original package and ink cartridges (long since dried out). I especially love the mailer to purchase extra cartridges. Probably dates from the early 60s is my guess. Not super high quality, but for $5, I couldn't complain.

Next up is the real buy of the show. It's a hand-made fountain pen from an artist named Ryan Krusac in Georgia. Most of his pens are crafted from exotic and reclaimed wood. The one I purchased is made with boxelder wood. The black spots are from the boxelder bugs that bored into the tree. The red streaking is the tree's response to the invasion of the bugs.

It's beautifully finished and shows attention to detail. I especially love that the grain of the wood from the cap to the barrel aligns when the cap is screwed down. The pen is quite large and has a good heft to it. Many of the other pens he had were made with equally interesting wood and looked great.

Thanks for looking and enjoy!

Cheers,

-Marc

Great finds! Congratulations. I have always wanted to try out a Waterman. I really enjoy old finds.

I was at an Estate Sale Store and came across a Parker 51 FP and Pencil Set and two Esterbrooks J Double Jewel in grey for $10 a piece. I was very happy.

The funny thing is I enjoy writing with the Parker 51 FP more than my Montblanc FPs. Imagine that!

That's a beautiful Box Elder pen Marc. I'm curious to know how the the nib on the hand made pen compares to the to a higher end pen. Does it write well?

I know a Pen Dealer from Milwaukee, Wisconsin who sets up and sells at all Pen Shows across America. She deals mainly with Vintage pens and especially with Vintage Fountain Pens(many brands and specializes in .vintage Parker Pens). Her name is Susan Wirth and she is a fun, knowledgeable Lady who is a top notch character and enjoyable to be around!!!

Leo, would you let me know if she comes to Southern California? I would enjoy seeing her collection and maybe adding something to mine.

The Boston pen show had many dealers who specialize in old, vintage pens. One guy had a box of new old stock parker pens from ages ago. Was amazing to handle these like from a time machine.

WOW! It's amazing and Beautiful. I just came back from my Rolex and jeweler Dealer and played with his Mont Blanc. Nothing compare to that!
