Is the Green Oris Aquis Date a Rolex Hulk Alternative?

I received this green Oris Aquis Date on July 11, 2018. So far, I love it, and I don't think I want a Rolex anymore. My wallet appreciates me for this.

Posted under Rolex General Discussion because I want to hear from Rolex people.

I think it's a great hulk alternative -- a quality green dive watch doesn't need to cost $9000 plus a potential $2000 premium

If you want a Swiss diver with a green face and bezel, sure. It’s an alternative. Like a white Audi is an alternative to a white VW.

But people who spend $10k on a watch typically want more than a watch.

They want the feeling they get from wearing it and the entry to a club.

As above. It is and it isn’t.
Want a nice green diver? Yes, that Oris is one! Want a Rolex? Nope, that’s not a Rolex.

Yeah it's an alternative.

But it's not an equivalent.

edit to add: I'm not running down the Oris at all, it's a really nice watch. I just don't think many people in the market for a Hulk are gonna be content with the Oris, which is how I interpreted the question.

Yes, if your selection criteria only includes color green with a divers bezel.

My brother has a beautiful green faced Tag. Got his automatic fix almost a decade before I caught the bug.

In fairness to Oris, their divers -- while below the quality and finish of a Rolex -- bring more to the table than a dive bezel and a dial color. It's a decent manufacture.

It's a great alternative! Oris makes great watches for the price point. My only issue is the lugs only work for Oris straps, but its not a huge downfall considering how nice Oris rubber is. It literally does every function the Hulk does, aside from the clasp adjustment. Great watch

After 3 days? You're in the honeymoon period still. If you wanted a hulk before, the want will return eventually.

The Aquis is a great watch though, enjoy it, but you'll be eying up the LV again soon enough.

Hi, I believe there is actually a clasp adjustment, though not as good as the Submariner's.

Oh, I still like Rolexes. Explorer I's, GMT's, and Submariners are all very nice. Maybe someday...

I love my green Sub.

I absolutely adore the watch... The finish, the quality, it's a Rolex.

Do I think the green Oris can live besides the Sub? Heck yeah ! I actually placed a call to an Oris AD but sadly they only had the rubber version. I'm waiting on the bracelet version!

It's a gorgeous watch with the quality and finish of a much more expensive watch. Oh and the ceramic bezel on the Oris pulls off green much better than my Rolex can under light.

(The blue is awesome too)

That's a beautiful watch. My first wrist watch, circa 1965 was an Oris and I have a bit of a soft spot for the brand. Anything's an alternative to anything else. But replacement it is not. If you want a sub you'll still want one.

I've been down this road and still ended up with the 116610LV. I should have just gone straight there in the first place. Nothing against that Oris though. In fact, I think I might have a closer look. Does it wear comfortably?

It is really comfortable and wears much smaller than 43 because of the lugs.

I'm with you, it isn't a replacement but it's an amazing alternative. I had an Aquis with black dial which my dad now wears in place of his DJ.

I'd buy that Oris if I was in the market for an affordable green diver, but I've already filled the gap to keep me waiting for a next gen Hulk ticking my boxes (42mm, tapered lugs, 3235, darker bezel and dial).

Carlos is right. It does wear smaller than many 43.5 mm watches because of the lugs; they are short and angled downward. On my 7.0-inch wrist it feels good.

I honestly don't think I'm going to want a Sub after getting this Oris, though. Maybe way, way down the road, but this ended up ticking all my boxes and it saved me a bunch of money. I was concerned it would be too big, but I don't think that's the case. I'll let you be the judge by looking at the above photo.

Now, my budget isn't the same as everyone else's here and neither is it a necessity for me to own "the best." For a small subset of people looking into the "Hulk," however, I think this Oris fits the bill. Of course, it would also make a great watch to accompany a Sub for those times when you don't want to wear a 10k watch.

It's nice your first watch from ca. 1965 was an Oris! What kind was it? Their vintage watches are excellent!

I love my Oris aquis. I think it’s a great watch that you seriously can’t beat the quality for the price. Sure I mainly wear it when I’m not comfortable wearing my other expensive watches, but still get great satisfaction wearing it.

I like the Oris line. Yes, it’s not a Rolex or a Hulk, but it’s a nice watch. Enjoy it!

Not a fan of green watches in general but this alternative is not even close for me.

It's definitely a well made, nice looking watch. If you're wanting a green diver, I think it scratches the itch, especially if you already have one or more Rolexes. If, however, you want a Rolex, it's not going to satisfy that craving.

Reasons will vary, but certainly true.

Congrats on the watch, if it’s just the green you were after, you can be happy and wear in good health!
