Name or Initials on MB Pen?

Last November I purchased my first Montblanc -a Meisterstuck rollerball. The packaging included a voucher that indicated I could take the pen into any Montblanc boutique store and have it engraved free of charge. I have not noticed too many engraved Montblancs so I elected to do it, besides, I suppose if I left it someplace at least I have a puncher's chance or retrieving it.

My question is - how many of you have your pen engraved? Thanks in advance for your reply.

My only Montblanc is a Hommage à Frédéric Chopin Fountain Pen, it was given to me from my grandfather since it used to be his. For that reason I wouldn't engrave it because it's a "special edition" pen but if I had to I think I'd go with my first name, looks more personal and special to me.

By the way, Dino (Dingoo93) has an engraved MB and it looks very good! If you're not going to sell I'd say go for it!

I got one for my 30th off my best friend, I use it every day and would never sell it but I dont think I would engrave it. For me I think it would ruin the pen especially as mine is bright blue I just dont think it would work.

Maybe a standard black one would look ok and I like the first name or initials.

I would never engrave any of my montblancs. It reduces the resale value of the pen.

I've engraved both of mine. Unlock my watches, I don't flip my pens so I'd rather have it personalized.

I have 15 MBs. I have only engraved one and that was the first one I bought. I would never do it again. It devalues the pen.

Personally I don't engrave my pens. As others mentioned it devalues the pen in resale.
However, if the engraving is on resin it's quite possible for a good repairer to remove it to the point of no trace. Engravings on metal is a different story - very difficult to remove.

I do not have any of my MB's engraved(just my personal choice)but I see no reason why if you want to do it...go ahead. Btw I think too many people are always looking at the money angle and resale value.....I buy my fountain pens to use and do use them everyday and the heck with resale!!!

I guess I don't think of my pen (or watch) as an investment. For me, these are just things that I enjoy, sort of like a piece of art, that I wouldn't purchase for future resale.

I agree with not going forward with the engraving if you are planning to sell at some point but that is not the case with me.

I never plan to sell anything I buy. I do not buy luxery goods as investments. However over time my personal taste has changed. I have found that over time items can loose their luster. Not personalizing items allows for ideal returns on resale. I often use te money to buy other shiny objects that I can put to better use.

I agree with this entirely. I am not buying the pens to resell them and I do not care to invest in pens. If I wanted to do tha I would I play with my investment portfolio.

I am ever aware that my tastes and preferences may evolve over time and that I could sell a few pens in order to buy different pens. The nice thing about the MBs that I bought used is that I could probably seel them for the same price I paid.

I have noticed that over the last few mnhs my preferences have been leaning towards the celluloid MBs of the 50s. I would gladly trade or sell some of my pens in order to buy a few more celluloid pens. Again, this uas nothing to do with investment. I love the feel and the balance of the celluloid pens. I currently own a 142 and a 332, but am always looking for more.

I received a MB Meisterstuck mechanical pencil (0.5mm / platinum plated) as a MS graduation gift from some of my family members, and it was fully engraved with my name - which looks great. I found a MB fountain pen here on TRF, and two matching writing instruments to go along with these: one roller ball and one 0.7mm pencil. I would like to have the others engraved. Should I take them to Mont Blanc only? How much would this service be? I have no intention of selling any of them.

And since this is the Rolex Forum, I can't forget these pictures:

I will engrave my favorite/keeper pen. It gives history especially when passed down to a loved one!

Austin, call one of their boutiques and they can tell you how much it costs per item. Also check around there are other pen stores like Paradise Pens who I imagine can have pens engraved as well.....happy hunting!!!

Nice pen Dino! I've noticed that engraving can vary greatly between MB boutiques!

I never have my pens engraved as they seem to always become trading fodder eventually.

But you need to satisfy your own desires. I have over 100 pens and am a collector always looking for something more.

Best of luck!
