Please help a newbie =)

hi. its great to have stumbled to this forum.

i would like to ask your help/opinion on my first rolex purchase.

i was narrowing it down to the Datejust 41mm with smooth bezel/116300 in blue azzuro roman (please see pic)

had a chance to try this beauty at my AD and it felt great on my wrist. (prefer the smooth bezel rather than the fluted one since i felt it looked better with the Oyster bracelet, just my own opinion )

another piece i am considering is the new submariner no date Ceramic / 114060 but had no chance to view it yet in the flesh since its quite hard to come by in my AD.

this will be my first rolex watch (the only watch i have is a JLC grande reverso 976 [i have quite big wrists so it does not look :grande on me, but it wears just right])

will the datejust only look good with a suit (was wearing office clothes when i tried it on) or will it go well even on casual wear?

or will the rolex submariner no date be a better choice as an all rounder so to speak? not considering the Subdate and GMT because i plan to stick with a certain budget. planning to get a DJ-31mm for my wife as well.

thank you for reading and your honest opinion will be very much appreciated.

please include your reason for your watch choice whether its the Datejust or Submariner.

Can go wrong either way, but I would go with the Sub as you already have a really nice 'dress watch'....although the Sub does look amazing with a suit!!

Good luck on your choice!!

Either can be worn for sport or dress.
The Sub definately has a sportier look to it so it's just a matter of personal taste.
Great choices.

I love the DJII (although on the 41mm size I prefer the fluted bezel). I wear it all the time with casual clothes, shorts, t-shirts, etc. I find it to be one of the most versatile watches I have ever owned and I love the fact that I don't see them in the wild very often. Sometimes when I wear my Sub C, it seems like every other person is wearing a Sub.

BTW, that one looks great on your wrist!

Very nice. Smooth bezel, only with oyster bracelet. No exception. Well done.

Welcome. As stated both are great choices. If you are this conflicted I would be surprised if you don't have both within a year or two.

Beautiful watch, but I like it better sub. You decide now, as someone said, try both.

Both good choices, maybe take into account if you need the date complication.

*Update*

had a chance to try on the submariner ceramic no date and it did not do it for me, i guess im not a sub man?

but my AD also recommended the Explorer i 39mm if i wanted something from the sports line up.

it looked great as well and honestly i want both but i can only purchase one for now. which would you go for if we have the same wrist size? here are the pics again of the DJ and Explorer i that im looking at for reference, thank you so much and looking forward to here from you guys.

* i liked this Dj because to me it resembles a DD Plat in ice blue face which i like, and the explorer i showed simplicity and elegance that i did not see in the sub, sorry in advance for those who loves the sub, its still a beautiful watch it just did not feel right when i wore it.

I have worm my GMTIIC with a suit and it looked ok. I do think the DJII you tried on would be more easily dressed up or down.

Go with the DJ II--that dial with the smooth bezel is super hot IMHO!

Interesting choice now between the 39mm Explorer and the DJII blue. That Explorer definitely flies under the radar and is the slightly sportier watch of the two. However, it will go well with the suiit, too! I think I'd pick it over the DJ, but thats just me. Whichever you like best is the one you should get! And welcome to the forum!

Between the Exp1 and the DJ II, I'd go for the latter. HTH.

Go with the Sub. It's the greatest watch ever.

Just saw you decided against the Sub, but I stand by my comments. Good luck with your decision.

Both are nice. IMHO the Explorer is one of the best looking watches of all time. It is the epitome of elegance. It is also very versatile. Clearly it speaks to me. Having said that go for the watch that speaks to you.
