When Rolex made corporate retirement watches

My local Rolex jeweler wanted to show me his latest vintage Rolex for sale. The inside is all Rolex but they designed the dial as a retirement present for Eaton employees. So no Rolex on the dial from 1940.

It’s barely half-past “U” and you’re already tired?

Yup Given to employees of Eaton after 25 yrs service

These dials are very hard to find in original condition

This one looks good

They also offered the rams horn model ref 3937 with this dial ( more common I think)

Here is mine with regular dial

Not always retirement. These were for 25 years service. Here is a later one, solid gold of course. They have nicely done engravings on the back.

I have seen these with "Rolex" repainted over the "Eatons" on the dial. Don't be fooled.

Rolex also made a wrist watch for Eaton's called "Solar Aqua". Solar was a Eaton's house brand. Note that not all Solar Aqua's are Rolex-made.

The engraving was more beautiful than the average commererative watch...

After the Rolex Prince style, Eaton switched to the 6022 Oyster. But the beauty on the caseback remained the same...

The engraving on the back looks like the Rolex Price you show. This one is from 1915 to 1940.

Looking at internet pricing it appears that the $6800 they are asking is reasonable. I’m just not sure who would purchase it.

Thanks for the responses! I’m surprised with your feedback.

I’m most surprised to see that these watches made their way outside of Canada!

Thanks for sharing these. Though I am not in the market, nor collect vintage pieces like this, I found it a very interesting post and appreciated the pictures. If I were a business owner, I would take pride in rewarding long-term employees with items like these. Conversely, if I were a long-term employee, I am sure I would cherish such a gift (on the assumption that I would presumably have been a long-term employee because of continued satisfaction with the job).

Thanks!

A watch from the devil himself? That script nearly messed with my head.

Prices for the rectangle cased earlier versions seem to reflect the desirability of the Prince, not so much Eatons.

The round version is a lot less expensive. I'd be looking around $2500 USD on those.

The caseback engravings on these are exceptional among service award watches. Really well done.

When did they stop doing this? I have seen the dominos dials on the air king. What is the last known iteration of one of these
