Chicago Suburbia GTG on Short Notice?

Ok, so the Rolex AD at Oak Brook is running a clearance (on numerous watch brands) this weekend. I know I'll go, but I was going to see if any other local WIS's wanted to make an event of it.

Dates are Oct. 7, 8, 9. You can PM me if interested.

Note that also the first week in Nov. the same AD is having the event where the Rolex corporate folks come into the store to showcase new models. Gotta assume the Basel 2011 stuff will all be there and available. I'll post more specific date/time info once I have it.

I checked it out. Not too much available, and less of that is a good deal. If you're in the market for a day-date or a DJ (not DJ II) then you can get a decent selection and somewhere between 15% and 20% discount.

Sport watch wise they had: WG Smurfmariner, Milgauss (white dial) at 15% discount.

Probably the best thing I saw was a Breguet WG Tradition at 30% discount.

All in all, unimpressive.

Disappointing, and yet at the same time I am glad I didn't miss out on the good stuff. I'd definitely be up for a GTG in the near future.

I hate to be the one to spearhead these things, but I guess I can give it a go. I would at least insist on 2 elements: (1) a good watch shop to oogle stuffs we all like and annoy the watch dealers with our superior knowledge (or better yet, lack thereof, and be wow'ed by someone like Chris over in the UK); and (2) a good place for eats/drinks to follow.

I'm accepting ideas and PM's on the topic. Be sure to include your email address because I'm a lazy but hard-working whiskey-drinking bastard who will not be bothered to hunt you down via Facebook based on your forum name and home town.

Oh, and it shan't be anywhere near Thanksgiving.

Jon, you are a trooper...do you still want to keep this event up around Oak Brook? If people want to come further south there is a James and Son's(they carry Rolex, Tag Heuer and Tissot) in Orland Park and plenty of good places to eat!!!

Quite true. One of the reasons I am thoroughly enjoying the 70 degree weather we have been having for the past 2 weeks out here :)
