new member with a question about a purchase

hi, i am looking to make my first purchase. was wondering if anybody could help me with their insight. i am looking at a two-tone submariner blue face. the watch is at a local jewelry store, comes with box, papers and is all original. its in good shape, links are tight. it has a 'U' serial number, was told it is from 1998. What would a good price be for this purchase? trying to determine if this is the right one for me or not.

Welcome to the Forum!

Since you say it has B&P, to this forum sight unseen, and according to you it is in good shape - pictures are a must. "Good shape" could mean different to collectors.

Also, find out what the service history is on the watch.

What are they asking? This to determine if it is reasonable.

You could also search the For Sale Forum and the large auction house for listings that have ended.

it doesnt have any dings or anything, a few small scratches on the band. it was serviced through the jewelry store, and has been polished as well. question, on the back of the two tones, on the clasp, is there supposed to be gold, or just stainless? this one doesn't appear to have any gold on the clasp, don't know if it has been changed or not, but i was told it is all original. i can buy it for $5200

Welcome, are they willing to warranty the piece since they serviced it?

I am pretty sure the U-serial did not have the gold through the clasp. Pictures would be great. Also try to get the reference numbers on the clasp (to determine period correct).

"has been polished as well" = could be good and hopefully not over polished.

Sounds like a reasonable price.

welcome to TRF :)
Concerning your potential purchase, www.chrono24.com is a fairly good source of 2nd hand watches.

Oops, you are actually right! I came back to this section to edit my message and introduce the For sale section in it, but you did it before me! :)
