Good observation and worth noting. Indeed interesting approach and for sure intentional.

I want to see the actual picture of the watch for sale or they are blowing smoke. No one would use a stock photo if they actually had this watch for sale.

I didn’t know a Patek 2499 was a Rolex.

I think the Le Mans Daytona should have never been sold to anyone by Rolex.

Rather, only awarded to the 1st place drivers and team owner (5 per year) for the next 20 years…

Now…what do you think it would fetch if one came to the auction block under those conditions?

About the same as Chrono 24 is advertising now.

It’s not like there are only 2 person waiting for the watch where the probability of selling to a flipper is 50%. The list is at least 10 and above. My AD told me that those who are added to the waiting list are only clients who have bought many pieces from them previously. So how did the first piece an AD received end up on the grey market blows my mind.

Maybe grey market dealers are the “clients” who have bought many pieces from them previously.

Because the AD sold it directly to that grey market at a huge markup.

Exactly . Most rich people will consider a person buying at these prices as stupid. I bet anyone buying it is either a speculator or someone who will never say he paid this much and will probably say he got it from AD. Some do brag when getting Rolex from AD believe it or not.

I’m going to say something that may require a tin foil hat. These watches are released in very small numbers and strictly controlled/allocated and yet they instantly appear on the gray market. To think Rolex doesn’t know Who What & Where is silly.

I think Rolex has commissioned/condoned a select few ADs to resell to gray dealers. Why? Look at the hype!!
51k watch selling for 400k. That’s the best marketing and publicity any company can get. You can’t buy that kind of PR. They’re getting it for free. What sells watches these days, as Padi likes to say $$$$$!

Omega and others would kill for that kind of PR/Marketing hype. The have anti hype and therefore relegated to the discount bins of Jomashop.

Conspiracy theory probably but maybe not so crazy when you really think about it.

I don’t think Rolex condoned ADs to sell to grey openly. HOWEVER, they do know the benefits of the hype it generates and thus turn a blind eye on them. That’s the disappointing part on Rolex. Saw a thread about a grey guy having 30 meteorites. It’s a matter of time before someone has 30 LeMans on their wrist

You both couldn’t be more wrong. If you meet a rich person that’s actually into watches they will show you. Likewise to any thing any person has serious interests in. If the passion exist rich or not you will find out very very fast lmao

I'll pile on with the POSSIBLE disappointment in Rolex. However, as I said above, I do not believe these are even being shipped yet. Until I see one on an actual collector's wrist I will assume the post for the LeMans was nothing than prefabricated hype.

IF this is genuine and two of these ended up immediately on the gray market, then shame on Rolex. It is exactly this type of behavior that is truly disgusting when you have a model like this that fans of the brand and fans of the Daytona would die for, and to see the system so openly mocked is truly obscene behavior.

I do not want to believe this is true, because whether it's imaginary or not I need to believe that the Mothership is watching this model and they are going to ensure they are going to customers that have supported the brand.

I have always supported the gray market and I'm a believer that people can do as they wish with their watches. I also believe that Rolex and ADs have a right to run a business how they see fit. And at the end of the day, those are the rules. However, people do not have to like the rules. There HAS to be a red line. You just do not create the LeMans and then let the entire system sh*t all over itself and sit back and think it is fine. That's behavior that will absolutely turn me off (and eventually away) from the brand.

Pieces like this elevate the brand. I know kids that are only interested in Rolex because many models trade for over MSRP.

In theory a low production/limited time model but nobody can know for sure. A unique movement that is only in this Daytona. PM, but not platinum so it doesn’t interfere with the Platinum Daytona at the top of the food chain.

I would normally never buy a WG Daytona, but I’ll buy this if my AD offers me one. Then I’ll be sad if they release it in YG down the road.

Tin foil hat?? LOL wow this is absolutely what is going on. Resellers own this forum so you won't get any commiserating here but by a few maybe.

Im sure Rolex has plenty of these unicorns up their sleeves. Theyve been releasing one off models for many years. They just know how to do it so well because theyve been doing it so long. Theyve perfected the art of releasung rare unique watches every few years. There truly marketing genious's. They know our emotions and how to toy with them. Yet we cant get enough. Props to Rolex
