Probably an everyday occurrence to those on this forum but Los Angeles to Paris was a long flight to me. Fortunately, it was a business trip and I was in Business class on an A380.

A380 is just about no longer with most airlines now a days. A380 and B747 are a dying breed...!

It was such a beautiful flight, felt like we lifted off at 20 mph and smooth as can be. It was crabbing during a windy landing in Paris though, that was interesting to watch through the tail-cam.

We are doing a 14 hr non stop from LA to Rome on a Boeing 777-200/200er (whatever that is). Booked business class as I hate flying. Hope we are comfy.

Have done too many 16-18 hr flights as passenger and 14-15 hr flights as operating crew on a wide variety of routes.
But a good friend of mine has us all beat. During his Air Force days as a B-52 pilot back in the '80s he flew a nonstop, 33-hour mission as part of an exercise where they took off from their base in North Dakota, flew to Egypt (whereupon they dropped some bombs in the western desert), then returned to base in Grand Forks. Not sure how many times they plugged into a tanker there and back. |

Coming back from deployment once on a KC-10. We flew from Rammstein, Germany to Travis AFB, California. It took 13.5 hours. Spent the night in base housing, had an hour long taxi ride, and two more much shorter flights the next day to arrive home at 5pm on Christmas Eve.

ATL to Johannesburg a few times. The run back from JNB to ATL was the longest. Felt sorry for the folks that arrived in ATL to connect.....all the bags stayed in South Africa.

Sydney to Los Angeles with headwinds 15ish hours as I recall. In the very back of the 747 by the lavatory. Not a fun one.

More importantly, things to bring. Whatever books you want, bring a book light. And a toothbrush and toothpaste. I went from
Sydney to Houston and I didn’t care if I missed the next flight because I wanted to brush my teeth so bad. |

Singapore to LAX. Was about 18 hours on an A340. Loved it. Took 3.5 hours off of the trip for a plane change on the Pacific Rim. I agree that on a flight is longer than 6 hours, there is not much difference in flight length. 3 hour flights seem the longest to me.

About 7-8 years ago I was flying Houston-Doha with Qatar Airways. About a 14 hr flight. I was luckily flying business class. We were delayed boarding because of a medical case. This was a baby who had serious problems. I don't know how the baby was cleared to fly. Anyway as we ran down the runway to take off the baby's vital signs monitors were all beeping like crazy. We took off and this carried on for a few hours. We were over Canada when it was announced we were diverting to JFK. We landed in JFk and it took about 2 hours for the emergency medical team to stabilise the baby and then disembark the baby with the family. We then had to wait to refuel. After an hour, they told us there was a software problem preventing refuelling and they had to contact Doha to fix. After a further five hours, we eventually were in the air again and finally landed in Doha about 23 hours after we took off from Houston. As I said I was luckily in Business so I slept through a lot of it. The people in economy must have had a nightmare. I never found out what happened to the baby I just hope everything was ok.

Flight SQ24 may currently be the longest nonstop in operation I suspect. A350-900 ULR. Excellent inflight entertainment options, quiet cabins, WiFi and legendary SQ service means the hours are bearable.

Houston to Dubai. I cant remember exactly but 16 hours and some change. Even in economy on an Emirates A380, it wasn't as bad as I expected.

Wasn’t Qantas testing out 18-19+ flights for potential routes? They used employees as guinea pigs to record bio metrics throughout. Apparently there’s science about the human psyche/level of tolerance not being able to stand being coop’d up in a tube/seat for that long.
