Dusty Hill, Dead at 72

Just heard Dusty Hill, one of the original founding members of ZZ Top, died in his sleep at 72.

DH was big influence on me. His style and steady bottom end were the perfect foundation for that lil' ol' band from Texas.

RIP, DH!

Huge influence on the music I would play, the kind of basses I would play, and how important the "show" in show business really is.
RIP, DH.

I went to a charity concert by Eric Clapton when I was 17 and ZZ Top came on stage as well, and Joe Cocker. Great night. R.I.P. DH

RIP. I used to listen to their music all the time! Sharp dressed man, Give me all your lovin', etc. Seems like that was all the radio ever played back in the 80's.

Been slowly watching my rock idols pass away. When Eddie Money passed, some of my best memories of the 70’s came back. Where to start with ZZ Top?

I'm so glad I got to see them once. It was a cold night in Tahoe and an outdoor concert. They opened with a group of newer songs from a forthcoming album. My future wife was cold, and I suggested we leave.

Being Scottish and careful with my money, she insisted that we stay, since I paid good money for the tickets. Once they got past the opening 30 minutes, it was like a non-stop greatest hits album. Wonderful, wonderful night.

Dammit man I can’t believe I hadn’t heard anything about this before now, thanks for the post Dan …. but damn. I’m thankful I’ve seen them live a handful of times over the years and you’re so right Dan …. Dusty was a consummate professional and his playing was always what was most important. RIP Dusty
