To wind or not to wind?

I was thinking should i get a watch winder for my DJ Rolex?, I got a free watch winder for my wifes Rolex. Its great because everytime she wears her Rolex the Time and date is always right. BUT.... She and I dont wear our watches everyday.

So to me seems almost not important to have a winder? If you wear it maybe once or twice a week. Is it better to have a winder or it better it rest when youre not wearing it?. just curious..

Hello ROLEX4EvEr,
I purchased a watch winder and I loved it. It always stayed on time. I guess I kind of hear other people say on this forum that just wind the watch twice a month and you should be fine.
But I am like you, I do not wear my watch everyday. So, I let it sit on my winder until I put it on again.

I still am questing the fact that a CERTIFIED ROLEX WATCHMAKER in my area is saying not to use the winder on my vintage 70's AIRKING. Very questionable why he would say that.

I think it's a jump ball. A winder is not going to hurt the watch and winding won't either.
Winders are convenient but not a necessity. I use one for vintage pieces with non-quick set dates.

I have my GMT-II on a winder with timer for 45 minutes twice a day. I think it's just great. Every time I put the watch I don't have to question the time. I always know it's within a minute or two.

With just two watches in my collection at any given time, I have never found the need for a winder. But I think this one below is one of the coolest ones I've ever laid eyes on!!

Got to agree with Mike on this one, winders only needed if watch has a lot of complications,or like Mike said perhaps without the quick set date feature. This topic has been discussed quite a few times now in forum.Manual winding will not harm your automatic watch in anyway. If you can manually wind a non auto watch daily,I am 100% sure a occasional manual wind of a auto will not harm it in anyway.

All depends on the application. I switch between at least two watches every week, so I like it on a winder because it's simply more convenient when I can pick it up and wear it without resetting anything.

All my autos have one or more complications so I keep them all on winders when i'm not wearing them. I hate having to set the day or date or month each time I want to wear the watch.

Do you know how long it would take me to reset this thing if it stopped running:

I don't even want to think about it.

I think so, Paulie. I just haven't figured out how to do that, though. I'm only on chapter 15 of the manual.

But it cooks a mean spaghetti & meatball dish.

Wow. I've had my GMTII since 1992, and wear it every day of the week except when I do yardwork or in the garage. No need for a winder in my house.
