weird engraving on LV submariner?

i am looking to pickup my first rolex and am interested in the LV submariner. i am aware that there are several different versions of this watch with subtle differences throughout the years. i have been doing research on the ways to tell them apart when i cam across this auction on ebay - i have never seen a marking on the side of a submariner before and the seller states that the watch has never been worn - so what is the marking on the 5th picture down? if anyone knows and can enlighten me that would be great - i am just trying to understand the differences in these watches. thanks in advance.

here is a pic of the engraving.
