New (to me) pre moon Speedy back from service (Before and after shots included)

I posted this earlier on WUS, but wanted to share with my TRF friends as well...so please forgive any redundency:

I got my 105.012-66 back from a full service and cosmetic clean up at MJ Watch Service near Chicago (www.mjwatchservice.com). I am very pleased with the results and am giddy with vintage speedmaster delight. I got the bracelet done as well, but am really loving the watch on this Hirsch Professional strap. I was stunned at their ability to minimize the substantial ding on the non-crown side without leaving an odd divot or compromizing the case lines. I was also glad to see that cleaning the hands removed some debris that I actually assumed was broken down and lost lume paint. I had to sit down last night and watch the Blu-Ray of Apollo 13 that I got as a christmas present, just to bask in the moment. That movie really is a 2 hr Speedmaster commercial .

Okay so enough chat...on to the pics!

First a few before:

And now the afters...I am wearing it now and imagine will be for some time:

Hello Alan!
your watchmaker made a wonderful restoration work. The watch looks almost like new, and ready to be enjoyed for many many years, and in good health.
I wish youŽll really enjoy it!
Great watch indeed.
Best cordial regards, and good wishes. Abel.

That was a heck of a ding!!!! How was it done??? I'm assuming it has the 321 movement???Great job on the restoration, looks like it has a new lease on life.

Thanks for the kind words all

Not sure how the ding got there. I bought the watch as you see it in the before pics from the son of its original owner...who bought it in Sweden in 1969. But the price was such that I was more than willing to take it in that state and figured it would still have a ding even after polishing. I was really impressed at the repair.

Indeed it is the 321 movement. I have a pic I took of the movement before sending it for service. I haven't wanted to open her back up after, but here is the before shot of the movement:

The movement looks clean. The pre-moon with the 321 movement is very collectible. I have a 145.022 around here somewhere, think I'll wear it to lunch!!

Your post is a reminder to me that buying "beaten up" old watches is a good exercise to undertake when the movement is in good shape. The restoration is spectacular. Thanks for sharing!

I just love these before and after shots and the restoration on your watch is fabulous. Not only the dent repair but the machine brushed finish is spot on.

Excuse me for asking but how much would a job like this cost?

What a great way to kick off the year.

Again thanks all for the encouragement. It is an exciting acquisition as an enthusiast.

The cost was rediculously low actually. It cost me all of $335 for:
New Omega crystal and gasket, new seals
Full service, cleaning and regulation (keeping -2sec/day)
Case restoration
Bracelet repair and restoration

All done within three weeks time to boot...and done really well. Stunning really.

Alan,

How did they tackle the non-crown side? Did they fill it with metal and then file it down?

Thanks

Frankly, I don't know. I didn't expect to see it gone when I went to get the watch. I was surprised and noted it, but didn't think to ask about technique at the time. But if it was filled, I would be surprised as I see no sort of seam or anything like that. But then again, I am ignorant altogether at how one might work with steel in that way.
