I've done it before a few times with my no longer owned DD and DDII, but at the RSC in Tokyo. I haven't asked them about my DD 40 because I'm happy with the dial I have. It usually took about three months for the dial to arrive if they had to order it; and a couple of weeks for the changeover. They let me keep the old dial. Also, depending on what you choose, they may have to replace the hands and date wheel as well. They let me keep those, too. I actually went back and forth between the original dial and the other dials a few times.

I've heard that Rolex allows you to change into certain dials but not others. I believe you can change into the baton dials but not the Romans or diamond dial? I dunno but interested in others' experiences.

I've heard if you switch dials inside Rolex covered warranty period that would void remaining warranty coverage.

I've changed from Romans to sticks and sticks to Romans and from white to champagne and champagne to white. I've even changed from black dial to white dial on a SS Daytona years ago and then changed back again. All was done at the RSC here or in Singapore (when I lived there).

Rolex will only change the dial if its available to your particular watch reference, and a very simple job around 30 minutes for any competent watchmaker.

Perhaps they would treat a new model differently, especially one that is still under warranty (which ever DD40 should be unless purchased gray market), but I recently got a quote to replace the dial on a 1980 18039 and was told Rolex would not replace the dial without a full overhaul on the movement.

Again, it may very well be different for such a new watch compared to a vintage DD with no service history, but either way something as simple as a 30m job might have other variables to consider.
