Hi friends,

Thanks to our very own Sam / ocN55 (glowing review incoming for him) - I've picked up (again) the non wave Omega SMPc. It is my favorite iteration of the classic SMPs made famous by Bond. I wish we could add the original wave dial style to this ceramic dial but keep the size at 41mm, and then it would be perfect.

I made the mistake of selling this one some time ago - the Rolex GMT and DJ I replaced it with did not fill the hole. Sentimentally, I also have so many memories associated with the SMP due to the girl and I both loving Bond (the memories of many good times and challenges surpassed are associated with a watch lineage - funny how sentimental horology is, isn't it?) At my age group, we started with Brosnan's era with the 2541.80 and 2531.80, and currently we are looking forward to No Time to Die (of course, Craig also wore the 2220.80 in Casino Royale).

Anybody else sold a watch then got it back? This time, the Seamaster I know will 100% stay in the collection forever. I won't get into the SMP vs Sub debate, but this time, the sentimental value makes the Omega win for me personally (and yes yes I know Bond wore Rolex originally - but Brosnan seals the deal here although we have indeed seen every single Bond movie and are aware of the literature).

Awesome watch. I just watched Goldeneye and The World is Not Enough over the weekend and Pierce was rocking the SMP. Looked great on him. I thought he was a great Bond and love the SMP 300m connection to the Bond movies.

GoldenEye is one of our favorites - and despite the critics' claims, we actually love the Eric Serra score, especially at the Casino scene. The World is Not Enough aged super well too in today's political climate - maybe it aged even better than GoldenEye. Brosnan's last two were comparatively forgettable but had their moments too.

I was very, very close to getting the 2531.80...although of course Brosnan started with the 2541.80 in GoldenEye. That said, the ceramic bezel won me over.

My ideal SMP would be the 2531.80 type "wave" dial adapted for the lacquer 212 SMPc dial (with the matching date-wheel) with the 41mm case sized retained. Oh well, one can dream...

I have the same piece, and somehow I appreciate it even more now. 7-8 years in my possession and it still looks fresh. That black dial is infinite

Thinking about adding a leather strap.
PM does anybody know if OEM straps for the new SPMc (42mm) fits on the previous 41mm generation?
Also do rubber straps come in different sizes?

I just picked up at 2254.50. I bought one new around 2006 or so and was wearing it when my twins were born. I eventually sold it after getting a taste for Rolex. I’ve sold off all of my watches now since I mainly wear an Apple Watch (don’t judge me too harshly). But I wanted to keep at least one mechanical, so I picked up another 2254.50. I don’t really like the newer models and this one reminds me of that day. This one will eventually be sent for a nice refurbish, but it stays in the family. Good examples are getting hard to come by.

I do not think the straps fit - I recall reading this somewhere but it's worth it to post a thread to ask (can also head over to OF but the folks here at TRF are bound to know as well). And yes - the lacquer dial is beautiful and timeless!

Beautiful classic - congrats. And yes, great examples are rarer and rarer these days.

The Seamaster 300m is already a classic and you can't go wrong.

Ugh - we love that movie and I was so close to getting the 2220.80 - so so so so so close. That said the Ceramic just retains its looks better imo (which again is a good or bad thing depending on which camp you fall within)

Same here, still the best modern Bond movie made.
Also the SMP that Craig wore originally got me into watches. I was dead set on getting the blue wave dial SMP from the movie. Yet when I finally reached my milestone to buy the watch (aka my M.D. papers) the new generation (SMPc) came out.
I went in to buy the older SMP wave dial, yet seeing them both in real life I chose black SMPc. Probably the one that I'll never part with

I would pay up for a wave dial on the same lacquer dial on the 212 with the applied logo kept...
