If you were a one watch only guy/woman which Rolex would you choose and why?

I made a post about recently about finding the time to wear all your watches in medium to large sized collections. Someone made a reply which got me thinking along the lines of referencing some people from famous movies or tv series who always just had that one watch and it always looked good.

Sort of your “trademark” watch if you like.

Got me thinking, I always always aspired to own a YG day date from very young it was always a very aspirational watch to me. Well I have now owned two, a 36 (ok because of tony soprano I’ll admit it) and now the day date 40. For some reason I tend to wear my PM watches a lot more sparingly, currently I wear my sd43 nearly and practically of the time, because I like how rugged it is and how much of a beating it can take, without looking beaten. One of my favourite Rolexes ever made.

However, having said this does it really suit me as a person, or reflect me as an individual? I think the day date 40 in yellow gold is a much better fitting for me who I am, my character and what I’m about.

As of tomorrow I’m going to Experiment with this watch as a one and only
Watch for at least a month or so to see how I feel about. My collection is way to big and loved to get rid of any I will never do that but I’m going to try this out.

Do you think your watch reflects you as a person, and why?

My 39mm Explorer.

I am not a flashy dresser/person. While I like my Sub a lot I don't wear it with a suit for the same reason I wouldn't wear sneakers with a suit. Others can...I don't care...but it isn't me.

The Explorer is low key and a timeless design. Not small, not huge, no weird colors, no unsightly cyclops. At work I deal primarily with people in different countries so except when I am traveling or have people in from far away places I am in jeans and a button down collar shirt. The Explorer suits that kind of dress.

Honestly though, I don't think it deserves the deep analysis you've described. Sometimes a watch is just a watch.

Probably a 39.5 Planet Ocean. I don't think I've ever worn a better fitting watch for my wrist.

I disagree with your last sentence - a watch is just a watch when It doesn’t give you any excitement to wear, for me at least.

Well, I guess not everyone is looking to their wristwatch for excitement...which is why I started the sentence with "sometimes". It reflects my taste and I suppose is not out of place with my personality but I could say that about my car, shoes or cell phone case.

If I had to wear a Rolex again, it would be a easy choice for me.
The 41DJ fluted bezel on oyster bracelet and blue dial. I think it and it’s 36mm counter part is the best looking Rolex to me.

I’ve been in a DD rut for a couple of weeks now. Frankly: lipstick on a pig here. My poor watch is really slumming it. But it doesn’t get a vote. It does, however, get all the dog slobber, hiking, and swimming it needs (or I can take).

It’d be my OP39 black — it’s a true under the radar GADA watch that wears very well and is interesting and attractive enough to keep me engaged.

If you asked me a few years ago, my white DaytonaC would’ve been my choice but I’ve started wearing it less often these days as it gets quite a bit of attention from others after the recent hype and increase in value.

16710 GMT-Master II Pepsi. I use the 24 hour hand/second time zone several times daily, and the ability to easily change bezel inserts and bracelets makes it one of the most versatile Rolex references.

I went through the same process some time ago: https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=718495

I ended up with a 229239, which I still have.

If I didn’t inherit my dad’s Rolex and had to buy only one.

This would be my one watch.

Why? I love the crazy combination of colors. The lightning seconds hand. The green glass. The symmetry.

Also. No other high end brand mimics this watch. It’s unique in Rolex line up and the rest of the watch world.

My sub date, it’s all I want and all I’ll ever need. Went through a bunch of Rolex, tudor and omegas to figure it out.

OP 36mm in candy pink , if I could find one at an AD. I might consider a 34 mm. I am on a wait list at my AD.

I love my blue DJ 41 with sticks and fluted bezel on Jubilee bracelet. Why? Everything about the design pleases me--everything.

Blue sunray dial that can vary between almost royal blue in 90-degree light to almost black when seen at an angle? Elegant tapering hands that have useful lume and which also extend back behind the axle instead of springing solely from it? White gold bezel that throws sparkles everywhere but still is not sleazily blingy? Jubilee bracelet so nubble-icious and comfy and a teeny bit dressy? Yup, yup, yup, and yup.

My couple-month-old Datejust is my only Rolex, and per my natural inclination and also my budget, it will remain so. I LOVE it. I'm happy every time I happen to glance down.

I think some are missing your point of the thread Jay. Not a what’s your favorite watch post or as I read it anyway. But on that note I don’t know if I own a watch that is a reflection of who I am as a person. My favorite most worn is my 326935. It’s big and flashy which I don’t think either of those is who I am as a person. Quite the opposite actually. Great post but it’s tough for me personally to relate to any of mine as who I am.

But I will post a gratuitous pic

Most likely this one because the GMT complication is useful for me on a daily basis. But I also have a Sub and Explorer 1. Any of these can be a one and done… but where’s the fun in that?

Any excuse Anthony

This one would work just as well for me - as a fellow business owner I think it’s a good look
