It really is unfortunate what happened to Manny’s dog. Let’s not take this in another direction.

This is just terrible. I’m so sorry, Manny. Sounds like a tough little pup who lived a great life.

So sorry to hear, Manny. I can't imagine the hurt you must feel but like so many have said, imagine the stories he's telling his buddies now! RIP Bailey.

I understand your sentiment and as heartbroken as I am I don't have any ill will towards the animal that did it. Sure it is absolutely terrible and I am at a complete loss, but it was just doing what nature intended it to do.

On another note thank you everyone for the kind words. I am sitting here with a big glass of bourbon and thinking about all of the fun we had while staring at his paw print and lock of hair they cut for me. It will be a challenging for days / weeks but I know that someday the hurt won't feel as bad.

The worst part of it all is just knowing his last moments were alone, I hope he remembered how much fun he had and all the love my family gave instead of being scared.

In the end my favorite quote to think about - not sure exactly how it goes but something along the lines of

Person 1: We only live once
Person 2: Wrong we only die once, but we get to live every day.

I really hope in his last moments he remembered how many times he got to live and not in fear of the one time he had to die.

I'm so sorry for your loss Manny, it really is awful news. Your family gave Bailey a beautiful life for 14 years, and I hope you can take comfort in knowing that's what he felt every single day.

Don't believe he felt alone and scared. He went down on the offensive, fighting instinctively to protect his family that gave his life fun times and love, the source of his spirit and enormous bravery despite his age and diminutive size. You were with him all the way till the last.

The rainbow bridge is lifted from Norse myth so it follows that Bailey is sitting in Valhalla, reserved for those who died fighting. Although gone too early, he couldn't have met a more righteous end.

For anyone reading his story here, he's already a legend that won't be forgotten.

He did what dogs do. And I’m sorry for the pain you and your family are feeling. But he’s a bad ass. And he went to the rainbow bridge doing what he dreamed of doing.

Take solace in that. Better than him getting old and feeble and wasting away. Or via an injection in an office like all my previous babies. He’s a god amongst dogs.
Don’t think it can be said any better than this! Truly sorry for you though.

Very sorry to hear that manny. Dogs are family and they are often the best member of the group!

So sorry Manny. Losing a dog is never easy and for it to go down like that is heartbreaking.

But as many have said, he died protecting his home and that is a very honorable and brave thing to do.

We will all be reunited with our furry friends one day and it will be glorious.

Sorry for your loss, Manny. It’s great that your family had so many years together with Bailey. I have to believe that for dogs, as for men, it’s much better to go out fighting with a growl than expiring with a whimper.

Lost my dog

RIP Bailey! It is amazing how these animal friends of our can touch emotions that are stronger than for some humans...

It is sad, and touches my heart to hear about Bailey. I to have lost a beautiful hearted, female Bengal cat named Roxy

The weird things is that even though, she lived a long life to 19 yrs, I loved her as much as I could every day because I knew her time would be short compared to mine...

Thank you for sharing. It took a lot of courage

Thanks everyone for the kind words and well wishes. Losing a little buddy is always tough this one is especially tough because it was such a shocking way to go.

Little guy went out a hero and protecting his pack. He showed courage and heart until the bitter end, not much more you could ask for from the little guy.

I hope he found peace in the end and I hope he felt the warmth of love that we gave him for his entire life.

Rest easy my friend you did an amazing job being our little guy and making us happier everyday we were around you. I will see you on the other side hopefully (if I make it up that way).

Damn she is/was a beauty, I wish they lived as long as we did. Would make our time on this world a little easier.

I’m very sorry to hear that. I had a yorkie and he was a madman. Absolutely no fear went strait at my golden retriever one day, got bloody as hell, very deep gashes and only let up when I broke it up, and then he wanted to go back and get more. Sounds like he gave that coyote a hell of a time.

Like family, their losses stay with us.
