Safe Deposit Box?

The thread on insurance includes several references to safe deposit boxes.

Who here uses them for their watches? How frequently do you access your box?

Seems like a real hassle to head to the bank when you want to wear your Daytona.

I use them and for me it’s perfect. I don’t need (or want) a home safe and I have convenience as I work literally two minutes and live 5 minutes from my bank.

I go about once every three days.

I have one and it's not all that inconvenient. I wouldn't put my weekly rotation in one, but if its going to sit for a couple weeks etc I don't mind.
I keep my unspeakable items and regular rotation in my home safe.

I use it all the time. It's a 10 minute walk from my office and home, so it's super convenient.

Will be getting one but only to store my watches while I'm away on vacation. Rest of the time I keep them at home. I prefer to have the flexibility to choose whatever I want whenever I want.

I use one and I specifically found a bank in town that is open late weekdays and both days on the weekend. I keep several watches in there and switch it up every 2 weeks or so. Cheap peace of mind for me.

I have and use one sparingly. Just know that your box contents have no insurance on them through the bank.

You essentially rely on the security of the bank for the safety deposit box.

I put my most expensive watches in a safe deposit box.

My less expensive watches stay at home with me.

How often I access the box depends on what my rotation is like.

I've accessed the box as often a couple of times a day, but that's rare.

I'm tending toward wearing my watches longer now, especially the ones kept at the bank, so I may go a week or longer wearing one watch.

Anymore, I don't feel any pressure to give my watches "love," as we sometimes say on the board, and wear them as long as I want, without feeling that I'm ignoring the others.

Also, the longer I go without wearing a particular watch, the more special it feels when I do get around to wearing it. It's almost like getting a new watch.

I have a safe deposit box at a bank in the city center in which most of the valuable watches are stored.
It is 20 minutes away and once every 2 or 3 weeks I rotate two watches. At home I have a safe where I keep the watches on rotation. Burglaries are sadly quite common in the area I live.

1) Insure high value items on a stated value rider on your home owners insurance
B) Store watches worn in regular rotation safely within your home
3) Store watches/jewlrey seldom worn in a safe deposit box at your bank along with wills, Advanced Directives, POA, titles and other important papers so your family knows where to find them

I use one regularly and swap out watches every 2 weeks or so depending on mood and desire to grab a particular one. It is super easy and a great piece of mind. I also tend to truly enjoy the ones I have out a lot more this way.

One comment from an experience I had.... several months ago I purchased a Rolex Daytona 116520 (steel with the steel bezel) only to learn later that the watch I purchased had been stolen. I eventually got my money back but in the process I was put in touch with the original owner who told me that he lived in LA and had his house broken into one night while he and his family had gone on a vacation. He mentioned that he had a safe in the house which is where he kept his watches and other valuables. The police told him after that, in their opinion, keeping the watches in the safe was the worst idea because the thieves first target is the safe and that he would be better off (if keeping them at home) to hide them some place less obvious. I recently took my family on a vacation and before I left (having not made the time to place the watches at the bank safe deposit) I hid mine in a place I felt was as good as I could do and was happy I came home without incident. Final thought, I recently acquired a new watch for my collection and the dealer gave me some interesting advice. Rather than have the watches insured on my homeowners insurance, he gave me some info on a separate company just for watches. His feeling was that if I had a watch stolen or damaged (hey, you can get mugged or be out of town and they take it from a hotel or whatever) that making a claim on this separate policy would save me from dealing with unnecessary claims on my homeowners policy that would increase my deductibles. I’ve not yet looked into the company he mentioned but it is something I’m going to look into.

Hoping none of you ever have to experience having a watch stolen or for that matter, dealing with buying a stolen watch.

If it’s not on my wrist, it’s in the safe. Minor inconvenience of checking in, waiting for a teller with keys, but nothing beats peace of mind. I do wish the process is more automated.

I keep the ones I don't often wear at the bank, the 2 or 3 in my daily rotation at home. I go whenever i need to, for a while there I was going every week.

I use one at a bank about 15m walk from my work place, though I keep most of my watches in a safe at home.

It has long been my thought that EVERYONE should own a "GOOD" safe for all the family valuables. (Liberty Lincoln here.)

If you can afford luxury watches / jewelry, you should have appropriate protection for them and the other family assets.

Even a very good safe can be a fraction of the cost of a collection of just a few high end watches or other jewelry.

They take all your stuff!

Haha - I'm pretty sure that they would reach out to have everyone who has a saftey deposit box to ask them to collect their belongings...

I have a safe at home but use a safety deposit box for my watches. I keep 3 at home and the rest is in the bank. I rotate about every month.

Too much of a hassle for me. Safety deposit boxes are for car titles, wills, and Grandmom’s pearls. I have a safe, cameras, and and Alarm at my home so no worries for me I like to have my watches on hand.

AC outlets inside the safes are available with Liberty Lincoln and Franklin models, just to name two. Plus other connections on the passthrough - Ethernet, etc.

Plus the AC available operates a power supply for the LED interior lighting system.

I do not trust these boxes.

My watches are buried outside in the woods. I dig them up when I want to mix it up.

I think putting a watch in a bank box is no fun. It's cheaper than insurance but you'd have to visit the bank to wear your own watch
