Daytona Flyback?

I know there is mixed reviews about if Daytona should have a date. I like it as is, but would not be offended if date was added . It would be nice to add a flyback complication as I would use it often. Thoughts?

I would find a date function really useful and I know I would utilise it more than the chronograph. They'll never incorporate it though.

My ad told me it was a flyback.... I asked if he was sure about that… He said yes because it flies-back to 12 after 30 second mark

I didn’t correct him

Out of interest what would your frequent use of a flyback be that cannot currently be met by a non flyback?

Agreed. Although I'd say "infrequently used" rather than useless.

My Daytonas already have a date. Mine says it’s the 30th below...

Chronos shouldnt have a date window. Lesser brands do this. It gives the vibe that an off the shelf movement was used which cheapens the watch IMO.

I would not buy the Daytona if it has date.

Putting a date on an already overloaded dial? Where would it go? Cyclops?

Legibility issues on steroids.

I love the Daytona because it doesn’t have a date. Same with the 114060.

I guess you could say I am a nerd with watches and I enjoyed using the function on many different kids activities Skiing, cart racing , and now track (cross country events). Really helpful when you have 2 things in same event.

You need the A Lange with 2!!! seconds hands for lap timing.

That has a few more complications and doesn’t fall into the same category.

The original and first automatic chronograph Caliber 11 in 1969, (Hamilton,Buren,Heuer), had a date complication.

How ridiculous. I could show you countless examples of high horology chrono with a date complication.
There's only one reason why Rolex would never add a date. Can you guess what that might be?

When I saw his statement I immediately thought of that VC Overseas chrono with blue dial. Amazing watch and those others clearly disprove the assertion as well.

It's on my wishlist. I have tried it on a few times now but don't have the spare funds. Who knows how this pandemic might affect us long term so am resisting the urge to spend on non essentials.

I hear ya. I think the interchangeable strap system and the three it comes with is pretty awesome!

It's an absolutely stunning watch. The quick strap/bracelet change is very innovative and that blue lacquered dial is mesmerizing with the twinkling angled chapter ring and complimentary sub dials. I don't think there is a more attractive dial at that price point.

Huge +1 to the strap system. I can’t believe how many companies are still waffling on implementing this into their watches. What kind of owner doesn’t want quick strap change capabilities?

I agree. I like the black dial as well, but keep going back to the blue. I’m honestly not even a big fan of chronos as far as the complication goes because I like complications I actually use and, realistically, I don’t really need a chrono, but that one is just so aesthetically perfect (in my opinion) and I actually like that it has the addition of the date because I look at my watch quite often to determine what the date is.

Anyways, you’re right about the blue dial, angled chapter ring, and complimentary sundials. Stunning! I’m also a big fan of the stainless bracelet. I’d likely wear it evenly on the stainless bracelet and rubber strap, then the alligator leather strap infrequently.
