Yes, condescension also means we cater to others because they are too weak to handle us. The poor are always among us. If this hiding is a sign of virtue in crisis, it should be one without a crisis. ;)
On point.

Good thread - there are many perspectives that can be taken in this (and virtually any situation).

But given the current pandemic situation, makes me appreciate, value and enjoy the things I enjoy THAT much more than usual.

I'm happy to be given another day, in good health, to be able to enjoy my family, watches, cars, outdoors and other things I absolutely love to the best of my capacity and ability (within following any recommended social distancing guidelines obviously).

Our time, health and stamina to enjoy certain things is very limited here on earth - and I want to make the best of each day, and not go into 'shelter' mode when something like this comes out.

None of this to say to 'flaunt' or be 'braggy' in any type of sense with what you got - but I sure as heck am going to enjoy life and squeeze everything out of it that much more, especially during harder times.

Exactly. Some people change their facetube profile picture after every news worthy tragedy too.

I buy watches for me, not for others, and I wear them the same way. No one cares about your watch. Having a guilty pleasure in these troubling times is good for your health.

I actually have done the same. But I’m rocking a $12 Casio. Have had little to no interest in Rolex lately. Kind of force myself to come here.

I appreciate your sentiment, but don't fully understand why we only behave with increased empathy during times like this. This will clear and 3rd world countries will be left living in conditions that most of us will never know where children eat from garbage dumps, walk in sewage, etc. Also, we have hundreds of thousands of homeless here in he US. If we're using the state of the world as a gauge for owning and enjoying material items, then we should never wear them.

I haven't put my watches away...just yet but I have put my Lamborghini away. Asking for trouble driving it around and it's also in bad taste when so many people are losing their jobs and businesses. This year is a write off.

I commend your intentions. However, did you wear your Rolex last year? 9.1 million people died of starvation (approximately 25,000/day) last year ... and every year. There is no worse experience anyone could every have than dying of starvation. Having said that, I wish the best to all affected by the virus and the economic downturn.

Sorry.

I never intended my post to be self righteous or somehow imply that I was making any kind of real sacrifice. First world problem for sure. To each their own - I meant no disrespect.

Dark days on the horizon for a lot of people.

No judgement whatsoever. I'm wearing my trusty Tudor on a rubber strap...no particular reason besides comfort and doesn't bother me much if I knock it on the fridge door. I should probably stop visiting the fridge.

Seems odd, but the best thing you can do right now is spend money... If you have it... and if there are places available to you to spend. You don't have to flaunt it, of course, but those that are in a fortunate enough position should be spending money.

Here is a small example (but can be extrapolated to any store/service that is still operating - including Rolex ADs) - in Sydney, all bars and restaurants are closed to dine in customers. They are surviving (barely) off the take-away trade at the moment. My favorite local Italian place closed its doors, but does deliver their food now. I would eat there maybe once a fortnight on average; since the lock-down I now order food once a week. Because when things get better, I want them to be open - I also want the people who wash the dishes and cook the food to remain employed. As long as all the dine-in customers do what I am doing, that is one business that will stay open, and a number of staff who will continue to get paid.

I realise that I am privileged to be in the position to do this; but there are still a vast number of us who are. We can make a positive difference in others lives.

You have this thread where someone is ashamed to wear their nice watch and another thread where a member is happily throwing away $3000 "profit". Strange times my friends.. strange times.

Wearing the watch I want is one of the few freedoms I have left to enjoy and appreciate.

OP's watch/wrist/choice (and choice to share online, for whatever reason) of course.
My 'thoughts' would tend towards the many people (and their families) involved in getting a watch to your wrist, from the raw materials thru to the final sale. C-19 will have impacted them as well, so you could argue that wearing it shows support. And that spending time on a forum for luxury products is entirely frivolous...

I leave the house for food, gas, and to run. Haven’t been wearing any watches out unless it’s my BBN. I spend most of my time when I’m not working or playing with kids, sanitizing, spraying down shopping carts, putting amazon boxes in quarantine and generally acting like an ocd clown trying to avoid a virus.

If you feel that the 'vibe' in your neighborhood has changed for the worse, then better to be safe than sorry. Hide your luxury watches, or just enjoy them inside the house.

Ignore the naysayers in these forums. Trust your gut!

I haven’t stopped wearing mine. Why should I? I worked hard for them and now find myself in the same position as many others with no work, stuck at home.

Yesterday at the supermarket the cashier was bragging about how well he is doing out of this situation. I nearly throttled him, the insensitive tw@t.
