Would you buy a 116520 but need to sell...

Sell my 16750 matte, add 3.5k-4K to get a 116520, white dial with B&P.
What would you do and why?

I wouldn’t. The GMT function is far more useful than chronograph.

If you’re concerned about appreciation then do it and don’t look back. As time goes by these 116520 Daytonas will get more and more expensive in mint condition with box and papers. The prices for a 16750 GMT will fluctuate just like a 5513 Sub but the Daytona is the indisputable king of the professional line.

Everyone likes different things. Some may be diehard GMT fans which would rather keep the 16750 but if the Daytona speaks to you then forget what other people think.

I personally would not make the trade. I prefer the GMT function as well as having a date. The ability to change the bezel inserts, and bracelets is what I love about the GMT. Ymmv.

I agree, although not everyone loves the Daytona, it holds and appreciates the highest value.

If you like it.....do it.....can't really do wrong value wise in the long run with stainless Daytonas. But I also have a soft spot for vintage GMTs. Tough call.

If you prefer it and the money is right, go for it! Both are excellent watches. I'd prefer the more modern watch as a regular user.

Tough choice, I own a 116520 and a GMT 16700 Pepsi, 116520 is IMHO a dressier watch ... so basically depends on the use you will give the watch...

I wouldn’t do it... I had a white Daytona, and I “traded down” for a 16710 original Pepsi w/ B&P AND a new 214270... I like each individual watch that I got in the trade more than the Daytona, and having both of them just makes it exponentially better... The Daytona was a cool watch, but it was just a little too much bling for me & I found that it wasn’t nearly as easy to read as the other two.

♛- Yet to be determined, but a white 16520 is on the short list. (I believe that I'll be able to read it better than my old 116520)

I'm usually all for flipping, if you're getting what it is you truly want...however, in cases where the watch you're flipping is discontinued, then I would advise an extra layer of caution.

Or better yet, don't do it and just add the Daytona.

Value wise...makes sense. Enjoyment wise....purely personal. As a one and only, I’d go Daytona, if you don’t need a gmt function or date. Although there’s no wrong choice, both are great watches. In a collection, if only could pick one to join the group, I’d go Daytona.
Ultimate answer ....both!

I wouldn't do it, personally the SS bezel Daytonas never really sang to me.
But I would trade a 16750 for a 116500

The white dial Daytona 116520 was my first Rolex. I walked into an AD, asked if they had one, they brought it out, and I handed them my AmEX.
I really wanted to love it. I gave it a couple years, but I just “liked” it.
My issues with it:

A bit flash for me

Super hard to read the time compared to other watches. Yep. It is. And I’ve discussed w a bunch of other guys and if you are really honest, it is what it is.

Felt like the pushers were always digging into the back of my hand.

It’s a beautiful watch, but just wasn’t my style. I’m now just a 4 digit guy, except for a matte dial 16750. No looking back.

The GMT is very nice, but the Daytona is legend beyond the PN ownership and the Daytona looks far more appealing in all situations.
The GMT is more useful, maybe...but there is a large percentage of buyers that buy Rolex just because you want it. Who here went into a Rolex store only because they were specifically looking for a "diving" watch...

I would get the watch I wanted, not the one the internet thought was subjectively better.
In this case I would get the Daytona.

It would depend on whether I need a chronograph or a GMT watch
