Could be a turnograph to have the stick hour marks and also a rotating bezel, but I’ve searched and couldn’t see an example with colour bezel. Fun looking though!!

I love old photos like that. So interesting to see, because in contrast my experiences in the US Army sharply. Even in combat in Iraq and Afghanistan, no one was ever allowed to write on there, Kevlar cover, and keep cigarettes in their helmet band. It was a different time then, for sure.
