Finally My First Patek!

After many years of being shunned by multiple Patek dealers, I've finally acquired my first.

I've been to many PP dealers only to be told that nothing is for sale, not taking new clients, start with a Breguet, Blancpain, etc.. to establish a relationship, or buy $$ worth of jewelry to start a relationship. I was turned off by the whole experience until I finally reached out to a dear friend and asked for a favor to introduce me to his dealer. I don't like asking for favors and was trying to establish a relationship on my own.

He made the intro and the owner of the AD and I had a great conversation. We went through my watch collection journey and my desire to start collecting Patek's. Obviously a Nautilus was not going to be my first allocation, so I requested this piece as I've been eyeing it for some time. I was lacking a dressier piece in my collection and the 5205G-013 fit the bill to fill that void.

I made this request back in December and he said he thinks he can make it happen in 2023. I didn't expect it to happen so quickly though. He sent me a text on Friday " I didn't forget about you and your piece just came in". I'm very excited to start my Patek journey and this piece is truly stunning in person.

More importantly, I'm just as excited about the AD relationship. They have been truly professional and sincere. That seems to be lacking today in the watch business these days and I' really appreciate it. I'm hoping to get this relationship to the same level as I have with my AP boutique and Rolex AD in the years to come.

Of course I've requested a 5712/1A and 5726/1A for the future. I'm sure I'll have to purchase another piece or two to strengthen my chances, but I'm ok with that. Luckily, Patek offers many options I have interest in.

Congrats… finally! Know you’ve been after this first Patek for a while. Coincidentally I was just thinking yesterday that I had a feeling you were going to get the call for this one soon. Must be some weird watch universe connection!

Congratulations, Mike! Very happy for you, especially starting off with such a great piece.

I still can’t understand why none of the others you had approached couldn’t make this happen?
Or is there something that significant about being introduced through a friend?? I mean, you still represented yourself the same. Or was it because your friend is a VIP client they wanted to please? Even that I don’t fully understand, but I’m glad to see it made a difference.

A very exciting moment for sure and I'm glad to read about your nice AD experience. The 5205G is definitely a very fine watch to get, especially in that version.

Congratz!

lol! It must be a watch universe thing. It came in a lot quicker than I anticipated. I thought I would get an AP allocation first this year for sure.

I didn't get it either. I'm never demanding in my approach with anyone. I'm always respectful. All the PP AD's I've tried were kind of condescending to be honest. Almost like I was wasting their time asking for a PP. I was at one AD in Vegas where they flat out told be they are not taking new clients for PP and I should look at the other brands they carry. I was really turned off by it as I have an amazing relationship with AP and Rolex.

My friend has almost a 30 year relationship with the owner. They were his Rolex dealer for years and they got the PP franchise. I'm sure it made a difference in getting me in the door, but I can tell they are a class organization from the top down.

Ironically, my friend has wanted to start collecting AP's, so I returned the favor and hooked him up with my AP boutique.

Thank you all for the kind words. It's been raining here, but got a break through of sunlight this afternoon. I ran outside and looked at the dial in the sun. They really do a nice job with the gradient dial!

Absolutely great watch! Huge congratulations!

Sucks about the AD experience but glad you got around it.

What I find even more appalling is that if your AD loses Patek, you are basically sweet out of luck and have to start again with a new AD. Utter BS.
