What is a Reversing Wheel?

Hi all,

Just got my wife’s 6 month old Datejust back from the RSC and apparently the issue was with a seized reversing wheel, which was replaced.

I can’t find too much info online about what a reversing wheel does so hoping someone can enlighten me. Also, any thoughts on what could have caused this to happen so soon in the watch’s journey? The RSC said it could have happened through magnetization.

Thanks,
J

A reversing wheel is part of the auto wind mechanism. It allows the watch to wind whether the rotor weight is moving clockwise or counter clockwise.
