I am using ATT Call Protect and it does a pretty good but not perfect job at screening out these scam calls. The frequency of these calls have really shot up.

fraud and scamming will slowly destroy the system, and then peoples confidence will vanish, its gone too far, its beating the system, i think its out of control.

Its not just online, its everywhere, i read today that after the pension rules in the uk were relaxed, people could do what they liked with their lump sum instead of having to buy an annuity, it has now been reported that many of these people were targeted and scammed of their pensions, its sad and terrifying.

There is really no point in answering your phone or front door unless its a friend or relative, or some other call you are expecting for business etc.

I have also received a few of these "Apple" calls. Normally, they leave a voicemail urging me to call a 1-800 number asap.

I just imagine what these people could be doing if they put effort into a real job.

FYI: bumping this thread as the scam is continuing. Received two calls from “Apple” -actually states on caller ID, in the past couple of days about a purported breach/online activity (voicemail message).

As advised, Be careful out there!

Never give your personal info out to ANYONE that calls you. Always hang up and call the person or business back directly if you have any concerns. This way you know exactly who your talking to.

At a point not in which I don't answer the phone at all unless I recognize the number. Times have changed.

Funny you mentioned this story, I had the same experience this week. It seems crime strikes everywhere these days.

That’s pretty much our practice too; if we don’t recognize the number, or caller, don’t answer.

I mentioned this before but I don't have a landline anymore and on my iPhone I have one ringtone for my contacts and another for anyone else.

Never answer the anyone else.

I very seldom go online now without using a VPN.

This is totally insane. To top that off all of the tax season scams are taking place, seemingly. I'm getting emails trying to appear as if it's actually from the Canada revenue agency.

Thanks for sharing this, Seth. It's a nice reminder of how careful we need to be out there. I never click on anything in the aforementioned emails. Usually they're reported as phishing scams to outlook or sent to spoof(at)paypal.com for those ones.
