I paid for a Sky D at an AD and was told I have to wait 8-12 months

I paid for a black SS Sky D at an AD and was told I have to wait 8-12 months.

Is this normal to pay for a watch and then wait?

I seem to read a lot of posts that suggest buyers are paying when they get the watch.

Please let me know if I made a mistake.

Did they tell you after you paid? Or you were told Pay now and wait for 8-12 months?

I would never pre pay for a watch...unless it was a steep discount. Why gibe the AD a free loan. Small deposit sure like a grand...

They told me before I paid, I have purchased from this AD before.

I have had a lot of bad experiences with AD waiting lists. I was told years ago that I was on the list for a Dayton only to find out recently that there is no list.

I wanted the Sky Dweller so I thought this was the only way. I even called Rolex head office to ask if this was OK but they would not give me an answer.

Probably would have been better to consider this before paying.
It's up to you, have your money tied up waiting or have your money in hand looking. If it's the blue dial, forget it.

What AD was this at if you don't mind me asking? In Toronto as well.

PM me direct if you want. Looking to go the same route. Seems the only way to get a hot watch now

It is the black Dial. I am still looking, I can always pull the trigger on another watch and get a refund from the AD.

I wouldn't play this game, I think I know which AD it is. Be careful when they say "refund", it may actually just be store credit. I personally don't think it is normal to demand full payment and then have you wait, especially as this is not a special order piece, they could sell it in a minute to the next person down the list. They're just taking advantage of interest-free capital.

My AD doesn't take deposits - I just expressed interest and got a BLNR and BLRO from them in Feb/March this year.

well yes it can happen and the wait time is probably okay. but there is no guarantee of delivery date.

When did you express interest, March 2018?

BLNR, same day I bought it from them. BLRO, mid-January 2019.

Very sound advice.

I cancelled one transaction because of this “refund” disguised as store credit.

Hope you get your watch soon or your money sooner!

Interesting. My AD even stopped accepting deposit for a watch that is not in stock. No matter what the model is. And you paid full? I am in Vancouver.

I've never been asked for a deposit, not to mention prepayment. I guess it might be regionally or dealer dependent on what the norms will be.

Normally the 0% loans come from the AD to help buy a watch, not from the customer too AD to wait for a watch!

I dunno man. I could make back the grey premium spread over a year. Like others said, small deposit sure.

Yes I knew when I paid but I was not in the forums. After reading a lot of posts I see that many people are paying when they pick up the watch.

The spread between AD and grey is $5000 CAD so I am not sure I would make that much in 8-12 months with my investment portfolio (ETF guy)

Never. Most AD won’t take deposits. This one may be cash strapped. Be careful.

Ya i wonder what happens if the AD gets pulled before the watch gets delivered. I would get that cash back.

Well more fool you, myself would never pay for anything upfront to be told I would have to wait 8-12 months.

I was ready to pull the trigger on a SkyD. The AD who I have a relationship with told me 50% down with the balance due when I get the watch.....maybe a year. Not sure what I’m going to do. 2 other ADs in the area wouldn’t even talk to me. I’ve worn only Rolex watches for 30 plus years. This type of stuff may force me to look at another mfg.

Only ADs of ill repute would partake in these practices:(

I was told 8 months by 2 ADs so I ended putting 20% down on a white one.
